Sunday side fall short

Sunday XI v. Massey Ferguson

On Sunday 4th September Kenilworth’s Sunday XI hosted Massey Ferguson in a forty overs a side friendly game which turned out to be a tight affair.

After losing a wicket in the second over as Matt Dadswell 1 for 17 off five overs bowled one of the openers, Massey Ferguson’s Cowling and James with a fine 75, together put on 88 for the second wicket, before number five Clay with a hard hitting 73 not out got them up to a very competitive 216 for 8 from their forty overs.

There were wickets too for Martin McKenna 2 for 32, Max Howard 2 for 36, Ali Peebles 1 for 41 and Liam Cottle 1 for 49.

Kenilworth’s reply began in positive fashion as young openers Danny Boneham and Jono Sparks put on 76 for the first wicket in twelve overs but two quick wickets then fell.

Boneham held Kenilworth’s innings together until he was sixth man out, after posting a personal best of 83, an innings that contained 11 boundary fours, whilst fellow youngsters Max Howard with 23 and Elliott Haynes-Sorrell 15 added quick runs, along with Cottle with 14 not out. However, Kenilworth couldn’t quite reach their target, falling just short, finishing on 211 for 7, Massey Ferguson winning a close game by five runs a match played in the right sprit.

Philip was the pick of the visitors bowling, with figures of 2 for 15 off eight overs.
