Sunday XI v. Leek Wootton

Kenilworth’s Sunday XI came away 24 run winners in their  40 overs a side friendly clash against neighbours Leek Wootton in a most enjoyable and entertaining match where credit went to all 22 players on display in front of a good crowd on a hot summer’s day and prove what Sunday friendly cricket is all about.


Batting first, the Sunday XI started well as youngsters Pat Howard 62 and Nathan Chant 24 put 95 for the first wicket. Howard hit 8 boundaries and 3 sixes in his knock. He was then joined by Guy Pearson and pair added a further 85 runs for the second wicket as Pearson  smashed 6 boundaries  and 5 sixes in his innings of 71. 15 year old Elliot Haynes-Sorrell did well and chipped in with a solid 25 whilst Dan Horner added 18 in Kenilworth’s total of 227-7. Couchman took 4-25 for the hosts, Clifford 2-30 and Bains 1-26.


Not to be outdone, Leek Wootton started well as Cook made 40 and Couchman 48 putting on 90 for the first wicket. Budd then added a further 40 runs as they chased down the target.  An impressive spell of hostile bowling from Jack Howard saw him take 4-26 whilst youngsters Ryan Bull  and Max Howard held their nerves towards the end of the Leek Wootton innings who were going for the win to take 2-51 and 1-21 respectively. Old timer Ali Peebles took 1-51 whilst there was a good run out from Pearson as Leek Wootton ended the day on 203-9 in an exciting finish on a most enjoyable day. The best friendly game of season.
