The sun and Sunday XI the winners

Sunday XI v. Leek Wootton

On a glorious September 11th day,  Kenilworth’s Sunday side entertained local rivals Leek Wootton in a forty overs a side friendly.

Leek Wootton elected to bat first, but the home side opening bowlers Matt Dadswell and his senior partner Ali Peebles who took a frugal 2 for 20 from his eight overs bowled well.  Leek Wootton opening bat Summerville held his side’s innings together, batting most of his innings on one leg with a fine 59, whilst only two other batsmen made double figures, as they finished on 124 all out in the 37th over. Other Kenilworth wicket takers were Geoff Edmunds with 3 for 3, Chris Beach 3 for 20, Martin McKenna with 1 for 12 and Liam Cottle 1 for 45. There were two smart catches in the outfield too for Jono Sparks and Martin McKenna.

Kenilworth’s openers Danny Boneham and Jono Sparks (26) put on 49 for the first wicket in ten overs. From 87 for three, Elliot Haynes-Sorrell 16 not out together with Danny Boneham with a fine innings of 52 not out including 4 x 4, put on an unbroken stand of 41, as Kenilworth finished on 128 for 3 with thirteen overs remaining, a wicket each for Charlton and Rob Hammett for Wootton, on a day where cricket was the winner and not the weather.
