Young Matt Dadswell takes his maiden 5 wicket haul in Senior cricket

Sunday XI v. Exhall & Wixford

On a beautiful summer Sunday 17th July, the Kenilworth Sunday XI made the trip to Exhall and Wixford to play a forty overs a side friendly.

Home side Exhall batted first with young Kenilworth bowlers Martin McKenna and Matthew Dadswell opening. They soon had the home batsmen in a some trouble and fourteen year old Matthew Dadswell took the first wicket to fall – in no time at all had taken the first four wickets to fall. Exhall were in all sorts of trouble at 32 for 4. Young Dadswell was taken off after his five overs that had yielded four wickets as fellow U15 Max Howard replaced him and he too soon got in on the wicket taking – two wickets for young Howard, 2 for 19 off seven tidy overs. There was also a wicket for the ageless Ali Peebles as he claimed 1 for 22. Matt Dadswell was bought back on from the bottom now, his fifth wicket soon followed, a fantastic spell off eight overs 5 for 32, his maiden five wicket haul in Senior cricket at the Club. Henry Curran with his leg breaks, took the final two wickets, Curran and Charlie Stranks took two sharp catches in the outfield each, as Exhall were all out for 149 in 34 overs.

Kenilworth’s openers, Danny Boneham with 12 and Jono Sparks with 45 put on 56 for the first wicket, after Boneham departed, young Freddie Davies added 13, Henry Curran batting at three, soon had the scoreboard moving, with an array of shots all round the ground, with 5 x 4 and 3 x 6, including a big six over mid wicket to win the game and in the process bring up his fifty, finishing on 51 not out.

Kenilworth won by seven wickets ending on 152-3, with thirteen overs remaining. A truly wonderful setting to play cricket, even if a little hard to find for some, on a day that belonged to young Matthew Dadswell for his maiden five wicket haul and the batting of Curran and Sparks showing that there is a strong depth in the Club with all these youngsters playing so well.
