2nds lose in the rain but the Spirit of Cricket is the real winner.

2nd. XI v. Wishaw

 

LOSE!

On Saturday 11th August Kenilworth’s Second team hosted Wishaw seconds for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Home side Kenilworth batted first but lost an early wicket with the score on 14, but young George Baines joined opener Mark Stranks, together the pair added 61 before Baines was out for 24. Elliot Haynes Sorrell joined Stranks, and these two carried on the good work, putting on 26 before two wickets fell with the score on 101, the home side 101 for 4, Stranks out for 40. Sorrel fell for 37, Joey Poole with 28 and a breezy 25 not out from Ian Baker helped Kenilworth to 188 for 9 from their fifty overs. Smith and Patel taking three wickets each for Wishaw.

Visitors Wishaw made a solid start in their reply, putting on 40 for the first wicket, the second wicket falling on 66. Opener Smith made 44 for the visitors, he was out with the score on 86. The home side kept chipping away and further wickets fell, Wishaw now 139 for 5 but a stand of 31 got there side to 170 for 6 then 178 for 7.

With rain falling constantly the visitors needing just a few runs, the sides stayed on the field of play in the Spirit of Cricket to bring the game to its natural conclusion. Wishaw lost their eighth wicket with two runs still needed but Barker held his nerve for the visitors with 32 not out hitting the winning runs in the 44th over, Wishaw winning by a slender two wickets in a creditable way to both sides for the match to have been played and end.

Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Joey Poole with 2 for 34 from nine overs, Pete Alty 2 for 43 from twelve overs, Ian Baker 2 for 44 from twelve overs, John Mortlock 1 for 14 and David Barclay with 1 for 19.

Kenilworth take 6 points.

Side posts 308 as Barclay hits 85 and Casey 62 but Griff hang on

2nd XI v. Griff & Coton 1’s

 

On Saturday 23rd June, Kenilworth’s Second team hosted Griff and Coton for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Skipper Matt Casey chose to bat first in glorious conditions on a belting pitch. Openers Mark Stranks and David Barclay made a very positive start, the pair putting on 62 in ten overs for the first wicket, Stranks the first wicket to fall, making 29. Barclay was joined by Elliot Haynes-Sorrell and these two really got the score moving, a combination of boundaries and good running saw the pair add 103 together for the second wicket, Sorrell out for 40. A third wicket for the visitors, Kenilworth now 185 for 3. Then Skipper Matt Casey joined Barclay, the pair adding 39, Barclay falling with the score on 224,after making his best score for Kenilworth of 85 that contained 8 x 4 & 1 x 6. Another wicket with the score on 224, but Casey was still there, Kenilworth’s sixth wicket fell on 241, Charlie Stranks (18) added 44 with Casey, now 285 for 7, Casey recorded his second fifty of the season, making a fine 62 (7 x 4), falling in the penultimate over. Kenilworth finished on 308 for 8 from their fifty over allocation. For Griff and Coton, Celvet with 3 for 44 and Laller 2 for 69 were the most successful bowlers.

Joey Poole made an early breakthrough for the home side, bowling Laller for 0, Griff 11 for 1. But opening bat Keshwala and Borne dug in for the visitors and began to build a solid partnership, the pair added 79, Borne out for 34 the visitors now 90 for 2. Rahman was run out for 4, Griff now 109 for 3.

Kenilworth kept chipping away at the visitors batting, but with overs running out and Griff holding on for the draw, with the score on 147 for 7, only a few overs remaining to force the win, another wicket in the last over, but Griff held on for the draw, finishing a long way short on 163 for 8 from their fifty overs. Keshwala made 60 for the visitors, for the home side Chris Beach with 2 for 15, Joey Poole 1 for 10, Jack Howard 1 for 36 and Matt Casey 1 for 37 taking the bowling honours.

Seconds settle for a draw

2nd XI v. RMCC

Kenilworth’s Second team hosted their RMCC counterparts on Saturday 2nd June for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Visitors RMCC won the toss and chose to bat first, Joey Poole and skipper Geoff Edmunds opening the bowling for Kenilworth, after four overs RMCC were 14 for no loss and then 30 for 0 after the first ten. Poole struck the first blow, clean bowling Atif for 22 with the score on 32. Max Howard and Chris Beach replaced Edmunds and Poole, Howard taking the second wicket, having Ali caught and bowled for 19. There was then a stand of 65 between number three Meraj and number four Akbar for the third of the wicket, Akbar falling to fifth bowler Charlie Stranks for an aggressive 40. Stranks struck twice more, RMCC now 158 for 5 in the 45th over. Poole returned to have Meraj caught by Mark Stranks for a fine 60 a flurry of late runs and wickets saw RMCC finish on 202 for 9 from their fifty overs, Khan unbeaten on 27 at the end. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Charlie Stranks 3 for 49 from twelve overs, Geoff Edmunds 2 for 20 off seven, Joey Poole with 2 for 54 from eleven overs and 1 for 40 for Max Howard from eight.

The Kenilworth openers Danny Boneham and Elliot Haynes Sorrell looked to make a solid start, but lost Sorrell to the first ball of the second over, 1 for 1. Keeper Dan Horner joined Boneham, the pair adding a solid 72 for the second wicket, before Boneham was bowled by Waheeb for a solid 39, Kenilworth 73 for 2 in the 29th over. Horner was joined at the wicket by Young George Baines, but he was dismissed with the score on 91, Baines making 10.David Barclay also out for 10, falling to Meraj, Kenilworth now 110 for 4 in the 40th over. The wicket of Horner for 45, who also fell to Meraj, now 116 for 5, the draw now the home side’s only option, Poole with 23 not out made sure that happened, two more late wickets meant Kenilworth finished on 154 for 7 from their fifty overs. Main wicket takers for RMCC were Sulai with 2 for 29 off nine overs and Meraj with 2 for 26 off seven overs, the match ending in a draw.

The day the IPL came to Dunlop!!!

2nd XI v. Dunlop Stars

Kenilworth’s second team travelled to play Dunlop  Stars for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture on Saturday 12th May  and suffered a heavy 10 wicket defeat

Put into bat, Kenilworth found scoring runs hard, openers Mark Stranks and Ant Kerry putting on 23 for the first wicket, Kerry making 13 and Stranks 16. The second wicket also falling with the score on 23, but two quick wickets falling left the visitors in trouble at 44 for 4 then 65 for 5. However, there was some promise as newbies all rounder David Barclay hit 32, Joey Poole 16 as the pair put putting on 39 for the sixth wicket, then a cameo of 19 not out from the returning George Boylin, got Kenilworth to 134 for 7 from their fifty over allocation. For Dunlop Stars, Ali with 3 for 47 from ten overs, Atta with 2 for 17 from twelve tight overs and 2 for 19 from nine overs for Hussain restricting the visitors.

After the tea interval, Dunlop Stars appeared to be in a hurry to finish the game in double quick time, opening pair Amir and Kasim plundered the Kenilworth bowling to all parts, fours and sixes in plentiful supply. Despite the efforts of the visitors efforts with the ball, they had no answer to the home sides batting, Dunlop winning easily by ten wickets, finishing on 138 for 0, getting the runs in only seventeen overs.

Amir making 71 not out and his partner Kasim 65 not out, Kenilworth taking just a single point for their efforts, the side will dust themselves off and go again next week.
