Kenilworth started their reply strongly with openers Jack Howard 29 and all rounder Joe Boyle with 38 putting on 59 for the first wicket before slipping to 64 for 3, which put the side on the back foot as Kenilworth were finding life hard against a good Nuneaton bowling attack.

2nd XI v. Berkswell 3’s

On Saturday 14th May, Kenilworth’s 2nd XI team hosted Berkswell CC 3rd XI at their Warwick Road ground in their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Eight East match.

Kenilworth were asked to bat first, the loss of an early wicket, opening bat Andy Dadswell 16 and debutant Tom Jenkins 12 steadied the innings, but when they both departed in quick succession, the home side then slipped to 71 for 6 –  that bought captain Jack Howard and along with young Martin McKenna 36. Together they put on a very fine partnership of 93, but captain Howard hit an outstanding 55 (4×4 & 2×6) with Kenilworth finishing on 175 for 9 and considering they were struggling, this was a competitive score. Fernando with 3 for 49 was the pick of the Berkswell bowlers.

The visitors reply got off to flying start, as Fernando who was in a hurry, hit 54 from opening, his side were well placed at 118 for 2, but a fiery second spell from captain Jack Howard soon ripped through the visitors middle order to finish with 5 for 46 to cap a fantastic day for himself along with his 55. Howard’s new ball partner Joe Boyle 2 for 34 and experienced seamer Ali Peebles 1 for 15, aided by two smart run outside, the visitors for all out for 141 in the 34th over, as Kenilworth won by 34 runs, and take a full 24 points for their efforts.
