A good friendly game

Pre season friendly
Pat Howard’s ton in vain

Sunday XI v. Shirley
A classy 106 from young opener Pat Howard was not enough to give Kenilworth victory as they lost by 8 wickets with 3 overs remaining of their 40 overs a side friendly against Shirley.
The Sunday XI managed to post 194-9 as Howard hit 10 boundaries and 2 sixes in his innings at top of the order. Matt Bolshaw added a further 38 but Shirley had the run chase in hand as Belfield made an unbeaten 91 and Clements 33 not out as they reached 195-2 despite Matt Casey taking 2-23 for Kenilworth in an enjoyable game.
Sunday joy for the Club

Sunday XI v Redditch
On Sunday 5th July, Kenilworth Sunday XI played host to Redditch CC in a 40 overs a side friendly and managed to complete the game and avoid the sharp burst of thunder, lightning and the heavy downpour of rain locally.
Redditch batted first, after the loss of an early wicket, number three Egan made 50 and Derreck batting at number 5 hit a solid 60, yet the innings was kept in check by Kenilworth’s bowlers Nick Moore with a tidy 2 for 26 off 8 overs, skipper Matt Bolshaw with 2 for 21, spinner Charlie Stranks 2 for 43 and youngster Jono Sparks 1 for 18. Three run outs accounted for the other wickets to fall as Redditch were bowled all out for 187 in the 39th over.
Kenilworth’s reply started with well with openers Danny Boneham and Gregg Peebles (39) putting on 79 for the first wicket, then after a short stoppage for rain, Boneham was joined by Dan Horner (17) to add 43 for the second wicket, before Boneham went on to make a fine 68 (6×4 1×6). However, it was old boy Ian Summers with 20 not out who won the match with a six and an over to spare on as the side reached 190 for 5. Tom Feylan with 3 for 57 off 8 overs was the most successful Redditch bowler. A great game of cricket played in the right spirit of the game, Kenilworth winning by five wickets.
Bowlers too good for Hunningham

2nd XI v Bedworth 3’s
Kenilworth’s Saturday 2nd team travelled to Bedworth to play their 3rd team. Bedworth won the toss and chose to bat on a green wicket.
Kenilworth’s opening bowlers were soon amongst the wickets, with Steve Rhodes with 3 for 20 off 10 and partner Matt Bolshaw bowled an incredible spell and was finely rewarded with frugal figures of 4 for 7 off 10 overs, whilst skipper Geoff Edmunds spun out the other three batsmen with a tidy 3 for 16 off 5 overs. Only number 8 batsman Scorey with 18 made a score of note as Bedworth slumped all out for 75.
Kenilworth openers Mark Stranks 19 and Vish Bora 31 shared an opening stand of 59 as Kenilworth eased home by 8 wickets, comprehensive winners, ending on 76 for 2. Brahack with 1 for 25 and Bourne with 1 for 15 were the home side’s wicket takers. Kenilworth 24pts Bedworth 3rds 0pts.
