19/08/2012: Sunday 2nd XI v Sutton Coldfield

Kenilworth Lose

The Sunday 2’s fell 20 runs short in an entertaining game against Sutton Coldfield who made 199-7 with Mist hitting 52, Betts 53 and Mott 42 not out. Kenilworth’s Roger Kelsey took 3-39 whilst there was a wicket a piece for Andy Smith, Mark Deeley and Todd Elliott. In reply, the Kenilworth chase started positively with Deeley hitting 46 but became bogged down against a tidy Sutton attack. It was left Danny Lane with 30 and Roger Kelsey to put on 72 for the 6th wicket that gave the side a chance. Kelsey played superbly with the bat promoted to the number 7 berth to make a career best score of 36 as he hit 2 boundaries and two huge sixes – much to the delight of the spectators. However, when he fell, Kenilworth’s chance of a win disappeared and the side settled on 179-7.

12/08/2012: Sunday 2nd XI v Attock

The Sunday 2’s fell 28 runs short after Attock had posted 221-9 thanks to Aktar hitting 67, Mahmood 39 and Javid 27 The Town’s outfielding was superb as 5 batsmen were run out with 3 sharp direct hits, 2 of which came from the arm of 15 year old Todd Elliott who also took 1-33. Fellow colt Ben Taylor took 2-33 whilst old timer, Andy Smith took the other wicket to fall. Despite a solid start from Lewis Phillips and Nigel Thompson with 34 a piece, the Town fell behind the required run rate against a tidy Attock bowling attack. George Boylin blasted a quickfire 18 but it was a 69 run 8th wicket partnership that gave the Town hope but when Roger Kelsey was out for 24, Ali Peebles ran out of overs and had to settle on 36 not out and the side 193-8 after Jaffrey had taken 3-11 and Khan 3-23 for Attock.

05/08/2012: Sunday 2nd XI v Harborne

The 2’s match was reduced to 20 overs per side but the Town won by 33 runs. The Town batting was led by skipper Mark Deeley who made 44 hitting 4 boundaries whilst the star of the day was colt Tom Pope who made his maiden Senior half century with a solid 54 hitting four boundaries. Pope then went on to claim 3-39 as Uppoor and Davenport both made 37 each for Harborne but their innings fell away with the introduction of slow spinner Roger Kelsey who ripped through the mid order and tail to take 6-23 off his 5 overs to leave Harborne on 113-9 when the overs ran out.

04/08/2012: Saturday 3rd XI v Winchcombe II

Match Abandoned

The Town 3’s match in the Cotswold Hills Cricket League was rained off after restricting Winchcombe II’s to 100-9 when the heavens opened and there was no opportunity for the match to continue. Indy Matharu continued his fine form with the ball to take 4-19 for the Town, whilst Roger Kelsey and Chris Wallsgrove took a brace each and Jae Naik the other wicket to fall with Moore unbeaten on 24 for the hosts.

28/07/2012: Saturday 3rd XI v Claverdon

Kenilworth Lose

The Town 3’s slumped to a 23 run defeat despite restricting Claverdon to 130-8 who had Hammond 38, Taylor 27 and Andrews 26 to thank for reaching their total. Star performer with the ball for the Town was skipper Andy Kennell who took a frugal 5-13 whilst Jae Naik took 2-18 and Indy Matharu 1-29. However, their efforts were in vain as the side collapsed to 107 all out after Chris Wallsgrove had made 20, Andy Dadswell 15 and Roger Kelsey 12 but the side were no match for the Claverdon bowling attack as Taylor took a stunning 4-9 from 10 overs, Andrews 3-15, Green 2-17 and Whale 1-31.
