Not quite enough

1st XI v. Bronze

On Saturday 4th June Kenilworth travelled to Bronze to play their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One match.

Kenilworth were asked to bat first, opening bat Guy Pearson with 42 was the only top order player to make any impact on the Bronze attack, as the visitors slipped to 58 for 5 , before a partnership of 80 between Aussie Matt Dargan (43) and Pat Howard (27) pulled things around, but when they were dismissed, the visitors were all out for 161 in the 49th over, Palmer with 4 for 40 doing the damage for the hosts.

The Bronze reply was soon in trouble at 8 for 2 as Kenilworth’s opening bowlers Matt Dargan 2 for 50 and the impressive Steve Rhodes 2 for 29 had the home team in trouble, but Wood with 74 and Freeman 42 got the home side back on track. There were further wickets for Tom Pope 1 for 39 and spinner Charlie Stranks 1 for 18 but their efforts were not enough as the home side won the game in the 42nd over, finishing on 162 for7 to win by three wickets. Kenilworth take five points and sees them at this early stage of the season slip into one of the relegation spots in the Division.

No joy for the Firsts

1st XI v. Old Edwardians

On a sunny May 28th , Kenilworth’s 1st XI team travelled to Old Edwardians for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One match.
The home side won the toss and asked Kenilworth to bat first who lost a very early wicket and later slipped to a precarious 65  for 6 with only Dave Edmunds with 39 making any impact with the bat.
However, Tom Booker with a fine 51 (7 x 4 and a six), along with Aussie import Matt Dargan 27 put on 76 for the 7th wicket before a late collapse saw the visitors slump to 165 all out in only 38 overs as Nazakat with 5 for 39 and Altaf with 3 for 28 doing the damage for Old Edwardians.
The home side found things tricky in their reply, slipping to 41 for 3 as Kenilworth’s bowlers made it hard the home side. Nazakat was having a fine game though, his 87 not out proving crucial.
steve rKenilworth kept taking wickets, with opening bowler Steve Rhodes taking a superb 4 for 21 from 12 hostile overs, but his efforts were in vain as Old Edwardians got over the winning line on 167 for 7 winners by three wickets. Other wicket takers were Tom Pope 1 for 27, Jorjeet Singh 1 for 47 and Neil Goodman 1 for 4, Guy Pearson taking two smart catches in the outfield. Kenilworth take 5 points.

T20 disaster

1st XI v. Dunlop

The Club’s inaugural entry into the Warwickshire Cricket League T20 competition proved to be a very short lived affair as the side were soundly beaten by visitors, Dunlop,  in Round 1 much to disappointment of those who braved the elements to support the side.

The side were bowled out for a miserly 64 after 12  of their allocated 20 overs faced.

Dunlop reached the winning post in the 15th over, albeit for the loss of  6 wickets, as they eased to victory in the gloom ending  on 66-6.

Only Tom Pope who top scored with 18 and Chris Prophet 12 managed to reach double figures in what can only be described as a poor batting display. Haffiz took 5-10 from his overs for Dunlop.

In reply, Dunlop eased to victory reaching 66-6 in 14.2 overs as Barber made 14, as did Gupta whilst Hussain on 12 not out saw the side home. Pope took 2-21, Matt Dargan 1-18. Phil Edmonds 2-12 and Prophet 1-10 for Kenilworth.

1st XI v. Weoley Hill

On Saturday 14th of May, Kenilworth’s 1st XI made the trip in Birmingham to play Weoley Hill for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 match.

Weoley Hill batted first and were soon in trouble as Kenilworth’s opening bowlers snapped up wickets – Matt Dargan 2 for 41 and Barnsley boy Steve Rhodes with a fine 3 for 50, as the host’s slipped to 7 for 2 then 86 for 5 and leave them in a  bit of trouble. However,  Weoley Hill were indebted to Croft who made 79, but spinners Phil Edmonds 2 for 37, Jorjeet Singh 1 for 30 and Charlie Stranks 2 for 13 seized control again and the home side were bowled out for 196 in the 48th over.

Kenilworth lost early wickets in their pursuit of their first win of the season, and slipped to 50 for 4 then a precarious 94 for 7. There were solid contributions from Tom Booker 33, Jorjeet Singh 26, opening bat Phil Edmonds 21 and young Dan Horner with a determined 15 steadied the ship but wickets continued to fall to leave the side clinging on. A fine unbroken 10th wicket stand of 33 between Steve Rhodes 21 not out and number eleven Tom Pope with 22 not out saved the day for the side as they finished on 174 for 9 from the 52 overs they had to bat. Ahmed with 4 for 36 and Chadwick 3 for 31 doing the damage to the Kenilworth batting.

Peebles stars with the bat and ball in the sun

Sunday XI v. Lubenham

Kenilworth’s Sunday XI hosted Leicester side Lubenham in a forty overs a side friendly on the 8th May at their Warwick Road ground.

Kenilworth opted to bat first and the loss of an early wicket saw the in form Guy Pearson to the crease with opening bat Gregg Peebles and they shared a quick fire partnership of 65 in six overs before Pearson departed for 30.

Chris Prophet then hit 44 and Dan Horner  20 gave  Peebles solid support who went on to make a hard hitting and delightful 95 (14×4 3×6) whilst added to that Tom Pope hit a very aggressive 38 at the end as Kenilworth made a fine 259-9 off their forty overs. Wright with 3 for 8 and May 2 for 48 the pick of the visitors.

When Lubenham’s reply got under way, losing two early wickets and slipping to 22 for 2, the 51 for 3 as opening bowlers Tom Pope 1 for 24 and junior Josh East took 2 for 26 before Dreyer with 37 joined opening bat Bradshaw 48 to add 64 for the fourth wicket.  Gregg Peebles rolled his over and was rewarded with 3 for 10 whilst spinner  Prophet claimed 2 for 5 as the visitors slipped from 114 for 3 to 132 all out as young Matthew Dadswell took the final wicket and end on 1 for 0 to see  Kenilworth home as the winners by 127 runs on a perfect summer’s day.
