U17’s make it two out of two

U17’s v. Exhall & Wixford

Kenilworth’s U17 side travelled to Exhall and Wixford on Tuesday 25th. July  for their second Cotswold Hills Under 17 League evening game.

Kenilworth were asked to bat first and openers Jono Sparks and Nathan Chant made a cautious start but the pair were soon in their stride.  Chant, in particular, began to find the boundary and he hit two huge sixes before being run out for an aggressive innings of 49. Captain Sparks went on to record his fifty before he retired on 51 not out, his innings included 8 x 4, as the opening pair put on their second hundred (105) opening stand in this competition.

There were cameos from Freddie Davies with 15 and Matt Casey 11 as they got the side to a very decent 159 for 4 from their 15 eight ball overs. McAdam with 1 for 21 off three overs was the best of the home side’s bowling.

Early wickets came for opening bowler Matt Casey as he struck with two in two balls in his second over, to take 2 for 8 from his two overs. First change down the hill, Matt Dadswell struck with a wicket in each of his two overs, he too taking 2 for 8 off two overs. There was a wicket with his first ball for Sam Markgraf (1 for 7) off two overs, whilst his brother Jack was also among the wickets, taking 2 for 30 from three overs. There was also a wicket for 13 year old James Sparks, following his impressive display in the field and he was rewarded with 1 for 15 off two tidy overs. Keeper Elliott Haynes-Sorrell took two smart stumpings as Kenilworth restricted the home side to just 85 for 8 from their fifteen overs, only Morrow with 25 and McAdam with 20 making any impact on an impressive visiting bowling and fielding display.

Kenilworth were worthy winners by 74 runs, two wins from two so far.
