Young guns keep on firing!

U-17’s v. Exhall & Wickford U-17’s

Kenilworth’s U17 side hosted their Exhall & Wixford counterparts on a sunny Tuesday 15th August evening in their Cotswold Hills U-17 Cricket League fixture.

Home skipper Elliott Haynes-Sorrell opted to bat first and opening batsmen Nathan Chant along with Max Howard made a careful start to their side’s innings but after Howard was dismissed for 19, captain Haynes-Sorrell strode to the crease and he soon set about increasing the tempo. He and Chant got the score to 90 before Haynes-Sorrell was caught for a hard hitting 47, his innings containing two big sixes. Chant went on to finish 30 not out, and along with Will Machin, Kenilworth finished on 116 for 2 from their 15 eight ball overs.

The Exhall reply had an early set back, as seamer Ryan Bull struck with a wicket in his second over, together with a tidy three over spell at the other end, the home side restricted the visitors to only twenty in the first five overs.

Opener and captain Ward and along with McAdam, the pair started to get Exhall & Wickford back in the game but Jack Markgraf removed McAdam for 29. A wicket next ball put the home side back on track, followed by a wicket too for his brother Sam Markgraf (1 for 13) and another for Jack Markgraf who had excellent figures of 3 for 12.

With Exhall needing 27 off the last over, even with the best efforts of Ward (38), Bull bowling him with the final ball 2 for 23 from his three overs, the visitors ended on 108 for 6 from their 15 overs. Kenilworth winning an entertaining game by 8 runs, the U-17 side keeping their 100% record going.
