Our former overseas player, Zimbabwean Douglas Marillier who played at the Club in our 1998 and 1999 seasons returned to visit us along with his wife Shellyann and his children Codie, Luke and Shaye tonight (16.12.2019) before they travel onto France for some Christmas skiing and was reunited with his friends and hosts from 20 years ago.

In 2000, Douggie went onto play international cricket for Zimbabwe and played 5 Test matches and 48 ODI’s for his country. A unique moment for our small Club.

As a result of these achievements, the Club appointed him a Life Member of the Club, the highest accolade that the Club can award.

He also famously hit Glenn McGrath for two boundaries in Australia with scoop shot over his shoulders in one over, one of the first to ever do the shot and took his side to an unlikely win against India hitting a match winning unbeaten half century.

He later hit a century against Kenya in an ODI that earned him the Man of the Match.

Currently, there are only 6 other club members to have been given this award and status. He was presented with it (at long last!) with an engraved glass trophy by the Club Secretary, Andy Smith.

A great evening was had reminiscing and catching up and a great Sunam Balti House curry was served at the Club.
