1st XI
WIN: 07/05/2011 v Ansley Sports The Town 1st XI started their 2011 League Season in style as they enjoyed a 4 wicket win against Ansley Sports in a low scoring affair. Ansley were put into bat and struggled against the Town bowlers to post 146-9 from their 50 overs. Only Copson with 42 and number 10, Morgan, 31 not out showed any form with the bat as they struggled against the seam of Pete Alty who took 3-31, whilst veteran left arm spinner, Geoff Edmunds, snapped up 4-24 from 15 frugal overs. Mitch Lowe took 1-52. In reply, the Town started well as opener, Dave Edmunds, hit 10 boundaries and a six on his way to 54 but once he was out the side stuttered after James Nason made 13 and Adie Sellar 11 and looked in trouble at 114-6. However, a fine 37 run unbeaten partnership between Neil Goodman 27 not out and keeper, Mike Watts, 16 not out saw the Town 1’s to 147-6 inside 35 overs despite Ansley’s Boyd taking 4-48 and Sayed 1-33. Kenilworth 20 points, Ansley Sports 3 points.
2nd XI
The Second XI kicked off their 2011 League season with 3 wicket win at Aston Unity after AU’s opener Gubby hit 82 and #7 Hart an unbeaten 33 in the side’s score of 201-6 from their 50 overs. Kenilworth’s seam attack were unable to make any breakthroughs and it was left to the spin twins of Andy Smith and Andy Kennell to claim all the wickets. Smith took 3-59 from his 15 overs whilst Andy Kennell took an excellent 3-33 from his 15 overs – both took catches along with Mark Deeley. In reply, openers Curtis Strange made 20 and Mark Stranks 23 before there was a 3rd wicket partnership of 92 between Deeley 48 and Lewis Phillips 39. Simon Lee then chipped in with 22. After a slight mid order wobble losing 3 wickets for 10 runs, the side passed over the winning line as Pat Howard stroked the ball to the boundary as the side reached 204-7 with 3 overs of the match remaining. AU’s Sturman and Rashid took three wickets each but the side had conceded 41 extras that helped Kenilworth secure the win.
3rd XI
The 3rds played local neighbours Leamington in a 45 overs friendly and were well beaten as Leamington posted a huge 291-5 batting first. Spa’s McCarthy his 120 before he fell to a catch by Charlie Stranks one of two he held onto off Indy Matharu’s bowling, whilst Kumar was unbeaten on 88 when the innings closed. Matharu ended up with 2-63 and Roger Kelsey claimed 3-51 as the Spa ran riot with the bat. In reply, Kenilworth could only muster 154 all out with only 4 batsmen reaching double figures. The total would have been a lot less had it not been for Steve Kelley who hit a fine 71 (8 x 4), Tom Anscombe 21 (4 x 4) and 10 each from Chris Beach and Matharu as Kumar took 4-31 and Norman 3-15 as the Spa ran out easy winners by 147 runs.
