A mixed bag of results but good performances had
The 3 League sides had a combination of a win, loss and a draw in their respective League fixtures on Saturday. The 1sts. drew despite Joe Atkinson hitting an unbeaten 115, whilst the 2nds. won and move into second spot in their Division and the 3rds. remain top of their Division with one match to go despite their defeat. The 3rds. need just 3 points to guarantee promotion and 8 points to win the Division should the 2 other closest sides fail to gain maximum points in their 2 remaining matches.
1st XI
Kenilworth v. Standard
Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 – W/L/D – 50 overs a side
L/DRAW
Standard 253-5 (17 points) (50 overs) drew with Kenilworth 221-7 (10 points) (50 overs).
The drawn match saw three centuries posted by the two sides as Standard recovered from 13-3 to post 253-7 as Thomas Kidd 114 (16 x 4, 1 x 6) and James Searle 113 not out (15 x 4) put on 217 for the side’s 4th. wicket with Steve Rhodes picking up 2-61 and a run out with a wicket a piece for Kapil Dubey and Joe Atkinson for Kenilworth. Skipper, Atkinson then led Kenilworth’s reply as he hit a superb unbeaten 115 (13 x 4), sharing in a third wicket stand of 110 with Sandeep Kumar 46 (4 x 4) but a few mid order wickets then fell and ended their run chase and the side had to settle for a draw finishing the day on 221-7, 33 runs short of their target as Phillips took 2-27 and Fox 2-47 for the hosts after Tom Booker had earlier added 29 in Kenilworth’s score.
2nd XI
Kenilworth v. Fillongley
Warwickshire Cricket League – Division 7 East – W/L/D – 50 overs a side
WIN
Fillongley 202-10 (6 points) (49.2 overs) lost to Kenilworth 203-6 (20 points) (46.4 overs) by 4 wickets.
The 2nd. XI moved into 2nd. spot and promotion contenders with 4 matches left following a fine 4 wicket win as they chased down Fillongley’s 202-10 with 3 overs to spare. Yet, it was the Fillongley’s number 10 and 11 who held firm to put on a last wicket stand of 84 to get the side to their score as Ali made 34 not out and Tregonning 37 after Hammond had earlier made 42 and Gilder 39. Dave Gamble took 3-18, Shyaan Imam 3-24 and Ben Clarke 3-39 for Kenilworth. In reply, Kenilworth reached 203-6 inside 47 overs as Dave Smithson hit 63 (7 x 4), Matt Casey 34 (5 x 4), Dave Edmunds 24 and Yash Joshi 22 in a solid team performance that gained the win, despite Gilder taking 3-43.
3rd. XI
Kenilworth v. Earlswood
Cotswold Hills Cricket League – Division 6 – W/L – 40 overs a side
LOSE
Kenilworth 150-8 (5 points) (40 overs) lost to Earlswood 152-5 (19 points) (35.1 overs) by 5 wickets.
Despite suffering a 5 wicket defeat in their penultimate game of the season at Earlswood, Kenilworth 3rds. are on the cusp of the Divisional title and promotion as they continue to remain in top spot. The side scored 150-8 with youngster Keeran Umashanker top scoring with 33 followed by Dhruv Vyas 31 (3 x 4) and an unbeaten 26 (3 x 4, 1 x 6) from Matt Dadswell at the tail after Jenkins took a splendid 3-8 from his 9 overs and Maddekar 4-45 for Earlswood. The hosts then recovered from 0-2 after James Sparks 2-43 took the early wickets as Graham made 42 before Maddekar 43 not out and Jenkins 21 not out teamed up with the bat to see the side to a win as they reached 152-5 with 5 overs to spare despite Dan Hone taking 2-27 and Will Thompson 1-19 with keeper Vik Joshi pouching two catches behind the stumps. Kenilworth need just 3 points for promotion and 8 points for the title in their last match if other results don’t go their way as those sides need to pick up maximum points in both of their remaining matches.
