2nd. XI v. Knowle and Dorridge IV

Kenilworth’s Saturday 2nd. XI opened up their 2019 Warwickshire County Cricket League Division Eight season with an away fixture at Knowle and Dorridge 4ths at Catherine de Barnes  on Saturday 20th April.

 
In glorious conditions, visitors Kenilworth were asked to bat first, opening pair Danny Boneham and skipper Matt Casey made a positive start, both player’s looked in good touch until Casey fell lbw to Hafeez for 11, Darius Potten-Ravenshad joined Boneham, he soon got the scoreboard moving, hitting the boundary board early on. A mix up between the pair resulted in Boneham being run out for 18, Kenilworth 56 for 2. Ben Maney joined Potten-Ravenshad, but fell for 5, from 56 for 1, the visitors slipped to 79 for 5, but Potten-Ravenshad looked in imperious form, and brought up his fifty with one of eight fours. But when he was well caught and bowled by Doger for 67, Kenilworth were struggling on 125 for 7, two more quick wickets fell and the visitors were struggling on 131 for 9, George Jeyaratnam batting at eight was in positive mood, along with number eleven Dave Gamble the pair added 40 for the last wicket, Jeyaratnam last man out for 34, Kenilworth ending in 171 all out in 40 overs of their fifty. For Knowle and Dorridge  Haffeez, Khan, Doger, and Ramesh taking two wickets each, as the players headed off for tea.

Knowle lost a wicket in the first over of their reply, Jeyaratnam bowling Afub first ball, his opening new ball partner Dave Gamble also struck an early blow removing Waseem for 10, caught behind by Dan Boneham, the home side 17 for 2. Ali joined opener Shakill, together the pair looked on good touch, taking the score to 53, before young Theo Mannion, replacing Gamble, had Shakill caught behind by Dan Boneham for 24. Matt Dadswell replaced Jeyaratnam, he was bowling a tidy line and length, and was rewarded with an lbw decision, the home side 62 for 4. Tom Skinner replaced Mannion, he too struck early, thanks to a sharp catch from skipper Casey at short cover, and the home side were 66 for 6 when Dadswell had the dangerous Ali lbw for 24. Young leg spinner Dan Roden replaced Matt Dadswell, and struck straight away, another wicket for Skinner thanks to a brilliant catch on the long on boundary from George Jeyaratnam, Haffeez out for a breezy 20, Knowle now in deep trouble on 89 for 8. There was a second wicket for Roden, via a smart stumping from Dan Boneham, 95 for 9 became 95 all out, Tom Skinner bowling the last man.

A fine team performance, saw Kenilworth win by 76 runs. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Tom Skinner with 3 for 18 from 5.4 overs, Matt Dadswell 2 for 8 off 6 tidy overs, Dan Roden a smart 2 for 10 from 3 overs, George Jeyaratnam 1 for 13 from 5 overs, Dave Gamble 1 for 13 off three and 1 for 27 for Theo Mannion from 6 overs.

Kenilworth take 24 points in their opening match of the League campaign for the perfect start to the season.
