LOSE
On 20th. July, the Club’s 1st. XI travelled to Olton and West Warwickshire for their win/lose format Division 1 match in the Warwickshire County Cricket League who proved too strong. The home side notched up a 54 run win as the Kenilworth side were unable to threaten their target despite Sunny Ahmed’s best efforts.
Kenilworth skipper Pete Magafas won the toss and asked Olton to bat first, and the home side lost opener Kang early, caught and bowled by Steve Rhodes for 4, Olton 11 for 1. This bought Webb to the crease, as he and Neale looked to rebuild their sides innings, both players looked assured, they added 48 together, when Webb was bowled by Muhammed Fahim for 19, the hosts 59 for 2. Talukder and Neale carried on the good work, Neale was the dominant batter in their partnership of 30, when Talukder was caught by Steve Rhodes off the bowling of Connor Shingler for 4, the home side still well placed on 89 for 3, Richter soon followed, bowled by Ilyaa Amin for 13, game on again at 108 for 4, but Neale was still there, passing fifty along the way. Barnard and Neale then put on a decent partnerships together for the fifth wicket, going on to add 62, before Neale was finally prized out by Muhammad Fahim, well stumped by Tom Booker for a fine 91, 170 for 5 now, and pushing towards the end of their innings, Barnard fell in the next over, caught by Connor Shingler for 25 off the bowling of Amin, 170 for 6. With the home side pushing for late runs, wickets fell, Trilloe caught by Rhodes off Fahim for 5, now 176 for 7, and game on again. Amin had Burke caught by Fahim for 6, as the home side ended their innings on 193 for 8 from their fifty overs, as the game was nicely poised at the half way point. Wickets for Muhammad Fahim with 3 for 42 from ten overs, Ilyas Amin with 3 for 34 from ten tidy overs, Connor Shingler 1 for 22 off seven and 1 for 29 off eight overs for Steve Rhodes.
Jo Atkinson and Connor Shingler were the opening pair for Kenilworth, as the visitors looked to chase down their target, but unfortunately Atkinson went early, caught off Trilloe, the visitors 1 for 1, this became 24 for 2, as Atkinson was bowled by Burke for 4. Adie Sellar and Muhammad Fahim the next pair at the crease, but Fahim was also caught off Trilloe, out for 2, and Kenilworth in early trouble on 27 for 3. Sunny Ahmed, at five, along with Sellar began the rebuild, both men looked assured, as they took the score past fifty together, they had put on 41, when Sellar was unfortunately run out for 20, the visitors 68 for 4, the game still well poised, another partnership was required now, on 92, Skipper Pete Magafas was also run out, Magafas out for 4, Kenilworth wobbling now on 92 for 5. Sunny Ahmed though was still there, passing fifty, a lot now depending on him, so when he was caught off the returning Burke, the visitors hopes started to fade, Ahmed making a fine 63, Kenilworth 126 for 6, when Steve Rhodes fell soon after, caught off Trilloe for 4, Kenilworth were in serious trouble on 133 for 7. Tom Booker was then also caught, Off Burke for 10, now 134 for 8, Darius Potten-Ravenshad fell without score, Kenilworth on the brink on 135 for 9, Amin and Tom Anscombe the last pair now, and it wasn’t long before the visitors were all out, Anscombe bowled by Burke, also without score. Kenilworth all out for 139 in the 44th over. For Olton, Trilloe took 4 for 19 off nine overs and Burke with 4 for 26 off eight, along with two run outs, Olton ran out comfortable winners by 54 runs in the end, Kenilworth take 4 points.
