Batting frailties cost side the match

1st. XI v. Solihull Blossomfield

Kenilworth’s 1st XI travelled to play Solihull Blossomfield for their latest Warwickshire County Cricket League Division One win/lose format fixture but were bowled out for 76 and lost the match by 6 wickets.

The home side won the toss and asked Kenilworth to bat first. Openers, skipper Pete Magafas and Connor Shingler were looking for a positive start to their side’s innings, but Magafas fell in the first over, caught and bowled by Bentley for no score, the visitors off to the worst start, 0 for 1. Adie Sellar was in at three, he and Shingler started to repair the early loss, but in the seventh over, Sellar was stumped off Bashir for 10, Kenilworth 18 for 2. Sunny Ahmed was in at four, but at 29, he was lbw to Bentley for 5, Fahim was then lbw to Bashir, Kenilworth in trouble on 34 for 4 in the 14th over. The visitors were then in serious trouble on 44 for 6, two wickets falling in the 16th over, Shingler falling for 11 and Fahim for 1, both falling to Bashir. Two more wickets fell in the 18th over, Kenilworth 47 for 8, Atkinson and Ilyas Amin falling to Bashir, both without score. A stand of 23 between Matt Casey and Steve Rhodes briefly gave some hope, but Rhodes was bowled by Furrer for 10, the visitors on the brink on 73 for 9, Casey was then last wicket to fall, bowled by Bashir for 8, Kenilworth all out for 76 in just 26 overs. Bashir taking 5 for 11 and Bentley with 3 for 14 for Blossomfield.

Blossomfield had the relatively small target to chase down, but they too lost early wickets, Sammons stumped by Tom Booker off Fahim for 2, the home side then lost a second wicket, Seifas caught by Matt Casey off Connor Shingler for 2, Blossomfield in early trouble on 11 for 2. Number three Bentley steadied the home side, along with Baker, the pair added 20, but Shingler had Baker caught by Charlie Stranks for 14, 31 for 3, Fahim then had Khan lbw for 9, the home side wobbling on 48 for 4. But it was number six Weaver and Bentley were to see their side home, as Blossomfield ended on 77 for 4 in the 18th over. Blossomfield the winners by 6 Wickets. For Kenilworth, Fahim taking 2 for 22 off seven overs and Connor Shingler with 2 for 31 off six overs. The side’s fragile batting costing them again.

Kenilworth 76-10 (26.1 overs) (1 point) lost to Solihull Blossomfield 77-4 (18.0 overs) (20 points) Mo. Fahim 2-22, Shingler 2-31.
