Triple defeats for the Town sides

Some encouraging performances in the sides’ defeats

 

 

 

Saturday 7th. May

 

All  three Kenilworth League sides lost their matches on Saturday in their respective win/lose format games.

 

1st XI 

Kenilworth v. Knowle & Dorridge 2’s

WCCL Division 1  – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose format

KENILWORTH LOST BY 7 WICKETS 

Kenilworth 110-10 (32.1 overs) (1 point) lost to Knowle & Dorridge 2’s 113-3 (19.4 overs) (20 points) by 7 wickets.

 

Knowle & Dorridge 2’s easily beat Kenilworth after the side were bowled out for 110, losing their last five wickets for 5 runs in five overs to condemn them to their third successive defeat in the Warwickshire Cricket League. Kenilworth had started well with skipper Joe Atkinson hitting 31 (6 x 4) and Tom Booker 29 (5 x 4) as the pair put on 59 for the first wicket. However, the side then quickly slumped to 64-5 before Stuart Cope 24 and Chris Prophet 17 added 41 for the 6th. wicket until Anaesh Patel ripped through the tail to take 4-3 from his 3.1 overs to bowl the Town side out. Kaasim Sabir had earlier taken 3-23 with a wicket a piece for O’Donnell, Attwood and Fareed for the hosts.

In reply, K & D cantered to a 7 wicket victory reaching 113-3 inside 20 overs despite Stuart Cope taking two wickets in an over with the score on 25. However, Ghanekar 25 and Tom Smith 42 not out put on a match winning  65 runs partnership for their 3rd. wicket whilst David Jakeman added an unbeaten 19 in the one sided affair. Cope ending on 2-31 with Connor Shingler taking the other wicket fall with 1-17.

 

 

2nd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Coleshill 1’s

WCCL Division 7 East – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose format

KENILWORTH LOST BY 4 WICKETS.

Kenilworth 212-5 (50 overs) (5 points) lost to Coleshill 216-4 (49.4 overs) (20 points) by 4 wickets.

 

Kenilworth 2’s suffered the heartache of a final over defeat after posting a challenging 212-5 after debutant Zohaid Zahib and Dan Horner put on 112 runs for the 1st. wicket. Zahib went on to make a fine 61 (2 x 4, 3 x 6) whilst Horner made a good 57 (3 x 4). Charlie Stranks chipped in with a solid 48 (3 x 4, 2 x 6) in mid order with Dave Smithson an unbeaten 16 in the side’s total. Coleshill’s Ballinger took 2-32.

Coleshill had Yakaob and Hill to thank for getting the side home to victory at 216-6 in a tense finish with only two balls of the match remaining as the pair put on 34 runs in the last 4 overs after Coleshill found themselves on 182-6. Islah had made 51 sharing in a 53 runs 3rd. wicket partnership and then 79 in a 4th. wicket one after Shazad had earlier made 38. Yakaob was unbeaten on 31 hitting the winning boundary and Hill 12 not out as they secured victory despite the best efforts of the Town’s Ben Clarke who picked up 3-48, Tom Skinner 2-32 with the Sam Davies taking the other wicket to fall.

 

 

3rd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Rowington

CHL Division 4 North – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose format

KENILWORTH LOST BY 61 RUNS.

Rowington 239-5 (40 overs) (20 points) beat Kenilworth 178-6 (40 overs) (6 points) by 61 runs.

 

Kenilworth 3’s lost their opening Cotswold Hills League match after Rowington had posted a stiff 239-5 in their 40 overs with Marcus Miles hitting 70, Scott Rogers making an unbeaten 63 and Graham Sly 42. Dan Hone was the pick of the Town bowlers taking a fine 4-30 from his spell, whilst debutant Tarun Ahuja took 1-47.

In reply, Kenilworth’s Josh Charlwood hit an impressive 73 (9 x 4, 2 x 6) opening in the run chase, whilst skipper Steve Kelley made 52 (4 x 4) and Ahuja 22 but the side had at settle on 178-6 at close.
