3rd. XI v. Kineton II

On Saturday 27th July, Kenilworth Thirds travelled over to Kineton to play their second team in the Cotswold Hills League Division 6 fixture, after a delayed start due to the morning rain and a covered wet wicket, it was agreed both sides would play thirty overs each miraculously but it ended in defeat for the 3’s, yet least they had a game.

Kenilworth skipper Geoff Edmunds won the toss and asked Kineton to bat first. Brown and Donant opened up for the home side, Ed Smith and Matt Dadswell opened the bowling for Kenilworth, the home side made a watchful start, 10 without loss after the first five overs. The home sides Openers began to up the rate a little, and after ten overs, were 32 without loss, Edmunds replaced Dadswell and Daniel Barrie replaced Smith, Brown and Donant passed fifty together, going on put on 77 together, when Barrie had Donant caught behind by Vic Joshi for 16. Cox joined Brown, these two were to add a good partnership together, both men very positive, Cox in particular, clearing the ropes on four occasions, the pair added 52 together, when Dadswell in his second spell, had Cox caught by Uma Umashanka at backward point, Cox hitting an aggressive 46, Kineton 129 for 2, Hutchings then retired hurt soon after coming into bat, Stiles replaced him, but was lbw to Dan Roden for 4, Kineton 140 for 3. Ed Smith then bowled the Kineton number six for 3, the home side now 151 for 4, then looking for a big finish, Brown was Stumped by Vic Joshi for a fine innings of 75 off the impressive Roden, in the 29th over, the home side 155 for 5, Kineton 157 for 5 from their thirty overs. For Kenilworth, Dan Roden with 2 for 19 from four overs, Ed Smith with 1 for 19 from seven overs, Matt Dadswell with 1 for 27 from seven overs and Dan Barrie with 1 for 36.

After the tea interval, Openers Uma Umashanka and Dan Roden made a steady start in the Kenilworth reply, Dan Roden hitting two nice fours, but misjudged a ball from Swift, Roden bowled for 8,, Kenilworth 18 for 1, Geoff Hay, playing his first game of the season, joined Umashanka, but the pair only added four together, when Umashanka was caught off Brown for 6, 22 for 2. Matt Dadswell fell to Swift without score, 22 for 3 now. This bought Yas Joshi to partner Hay, the pair added 12, but Joshi was caught and bowled for 7 off Johnson, Kenilworth 34 for 4. Andy Dadswell was next man in, but he and Hay struggled to make any inroads, When Dadswell was bowled by Clark for 2, 38 for 4 in 16th over. Next man in Vic Joshi then started to put bat to ball, a four and a six in the same over off Johnson, the pair added 22 together when Joshi was run out by the sub fielder for a breezy 19, Kenilworth in trouble on 60 for 6 in the 20th over. Two wickets fell on 71, Hay caught behind off Clark for 12, and Gareth Knights, out caught next ball, Kenilworth in deep trouble on 71 for 8. Number ten Daniel Barrie avoided the hat trick, just. Barrie though was caught and bowled by Keep for 1, 77 for nine in the 26th over. Last pair Ed Smith and Geoff Edmunds together, a four for Smith, then bowled by Cox, Smith making 14, Kenilworth all out for 81 in the 27th over. For Kineton, Clark taking 3 for 8 off seven overs, as Kineton ran out winners by 77 runs.

Yet, at least the lads had a game to play and represent the Club.
