Club XI v. Aston Unity

Kenilworth CC began their 2019 cricket season at home to Aston Unity on Saturday 6th April, the match being a forty over a side pre-League season friendly.

Home skipper Sam Leach won the first toss of the season and invited visitors Aston Unity to have the first bat of the season.
Unity opener Kumara looked in good early season form for his side, and after surviving an early chance in the field, went on to register the first half century of 2019. However, the home sides bowlers plugged away, and with wickets falling at the other end, Kumara went on his merry way, reaching his century before retiring on exactly one hundred. Aston Unity finished their innings on 198 for 8 from their forty overs, Maddams added 36 for the visitors. Wickets were shared for the home team, with  Tom Skinner taking 2 for 43 from 8 overs, Henry Curran 1 for 17 off five, whilst debutants Ash Dhillon 1 for 21, Dan Roden 1 for 29 and John Proctor 1 for 55 and so the players headed off for the first cricket tea of the season.

The Kenilworth openers Dan Horner and Adie Sellar opened up for the hosts, but Horner was unfortunately bowled first ball of the innings, a ball that kept low, Sellar soon fell for just five, Henry Curran made 13 and Elliott Haynes Sorrell four, leaving the home side in some trouble, but Darius Potten-Ravenshad and Ben Maney came together to try and rebuild their side’s innings, both batsman made 20 before Maney was run out and Potten-Ravenshad was bowled, six down, Kenilworth’s innings was in  now deep water, Sam Leach made nine and Dan Roden seven, Kenilworth eventually all out for just 114 in thirty eight overs.

For Unity, Paggett, A. Bogle and Chandler all taking two wickets each. Cob webs dusted off, but Aston Unity ran out winners by 84 runs.
