3rd XI v. Overbury II

On Saturday 11th May, Kenilworth’s Third team hosted their first home game of the season at Harbury for their Cotswold Hills League Division Six fixture against Overbury second team and came out second best as Overbury reached the reduced target in a rain affected game.
The visitors won the toss and asked Kenilworth to bat first, opening pair of Andy Dadswell and Uma Uma-Shanker strode to the crease, a solid start was key, but in the fifth over, Dadswell was caught for just 3, off the bowling of Sherbourne, Kenilworth 17 for 1. Vic Joshi joined Shanker, a partnership was taking shape, Shanker in particular looking in good touch, as he found the boundary on several occasions, but Joshi was bowled by Darling for 4 , the home side now 45 for 2. Gareth Knights was next man in , but he was caught off the bowling of Hayden for 1, Kenilworth 54 for 3 , young Joshi joined Shanker, but just when Shanker looked set for a big score, he was clean bowled by Darling for 42, Kenilworth 60 for 4. Ed Smith joined Joshi now, but he too was booked by Darling for 5, when Joshi junior fell to Darling for 2, Kenilworth were in deep trouble at 66 for 6. Youngster’s Dan Roden and Matt Dadswell then added 13, before Dadswell was dismissed by Darling for 11, Roden became Darlings sixth wicket, out for 1. When young Dan Barrie was out, bowled by Millard, Kenilworth were in serious danger of not reaching a Hundred, 82 for 9 when Skipper Geoff Edmunds joined young Louis Smithson, the pair had eight overs left, and together inched their way towards a batting point, Smithson was bowled off the penultimate ball of the innings for a gritty 7 , leaving skipper Edmunds on 7 not out, Kenilworth ending on 106 all out in 39.5 overs of their allotted Forty. For Overbury, Richard Darling took an unbelievable 6 for 22 from nine overs, as the players headed off for tea.
The visitors opener’s Turner and Hayden looked for a solid start in their reply, opening the bowling were Ed Smith and Matt Dadswell for Kenilworth, without alarm but two breaks for rain and hail, the visitors target was reduced to needing 85 to win off 32 overs. After the last interruption, Matt Dadswell had Turner brilliantly caught by young Joshi diving forward for 11, Overbury 27 for 1, his wicket brought Bramley to the crease, together the pair began to get their side closer to their target, Dan Roden replaced Ed Smith and skipper Edmunds replaced Dadswell, but the visitors continued to inch towards their target of 85, after putting on 52 together, Hayden was well caught and bowled by Dan Roden for 43, Overbury nearly home on 79 for 2. Young Dan Barrie replaced Edmunds, and bowled a tidy spell but it was left to Owen to hit the winning boundary, Overbury finishing on 85 for 2 in the 24th over, to win by eight wickets, taking 21 points. For Kenilworth, wickets for Matt Dadswell with 1 for 20 from six overs, and Dan Roden with 1 for 22 from six overs, Kenilworth taking just two points for their efforts.
