Saved by the rain?…….. Booker and Rhodes remained steadfast after batting collapse.

1st. XI v. Water Orton

MATCH ABANDONED

On Saturday 15th June , Kenilworth hosted Water Orton for their latest Warwickshire County Cricket League Division One fixture, survived a top order batting collapse until Tom Booker and Steve Rhodes put runs on the board until the weather intervened, meaning that the match was abandoned.

Put into bat , Kenilworth had the worst possible start, losing opener Dave Edmunds to the first Ball of the match, lbw to Devinda, that became 5 for 2 when Fahim Ahmed was caught off Glastonbury for four, with both openers gone, number three Joe Atkinson and number four Henry Curran looked to get their side back on track, but Atkinson also fell lbw to Devinda, out for three, Kenilworth 11 for 3, this became 15 for 4 when next man in Sunny Ahmed was the third lbw victim of Devinda. Unbelievably Skipper Pete Magafas also fell lbw to Devinda, going without scoring, the home side in all sorts of trouble on 15 for 5. Meanwhile Curran was watching all this from the other end, but he to was adjudged lbw, this time off the bowling of Lloyd, now 23 for 6. Keeper batsman Tom Booker and Steve Rhodes then began to bat their side back into the game and together the pair began to get the scoreboard moving, as Kenilworth passed fifty, Booker and Rhodes went on to record a fifty run stand together for the seventh wicket. They both played well, taking the side past a hundred, with the score on 101, Rhodes was out LBW to Sanayake for a solid innings of 34, with next man in Ilyas was also lbw to Sanayake, out for one. With rain falling now, the players went off, the home side on 108 for 8 after thirty eight overs. Booker was left stranded on 44 not out. The rain left the ground in an unfit state by the time the game had run out of time for the match to be completed, the game called off, match abandoned.

Kenilworth ending on 108 for 8 on a day when the weather beat the players, and of the eight wickets to fall, seven were adjudged lbw, Devinda taking four wickets for Water Orton, Kenilworth take four points.
