Shingler in fine form with the bat and ball as side secure a win

On Saturday 29th June, Kenilworth travelled to King’s Heath for their latest Warwickshire County Cricket League Division One fixture and a good round all performance by the side saw them ease to a win by 7 wickets and move up three spots in the Division, as a result.

The home side batted first on a hot and sunny day, openers Saeed and Langham were up against the Kenilworth opening attack of Steve Rhodes and Sunny Ahmed, the home side made a cautious start, the visitors made the home side work hard for their runs, Kenilworth were rewarded with early wickets, Saeed caught behind by Tom Booker off the bowling of Sunny Ahmed for 9, Muhammad Naeem replaced Ahmed and was rewarded straight away, bowling Langham for 18. Steve Rhodes then had number three Hickingbottom caught by Booker behind the stumps for 3, the home struggling three down. Homer and Farooq began to build a steady partnership for King’s Heath. Joe Atkinson replaced Rhodes and Ilyas replaced Naeem, Faheem then had Farooq caught by Ilyas for 9. Muhammad Faheem replaced Atkinson, Ilyas then had McKeever stumped by Tom Booker for 14. Faheem then bowled Wardon for 4. Two quick wickets for Connor Shingler, bowling Nasson for 4 and having Homer well stumped by Tom Booker for a determined 30. The home side eight down and on the brink with the score on 120. Shingler then had number ten Pervaiz lbw for 1, and the return of Muhammad Naeem accounted for Hussain, lbw also for 1, Kings Heath all out for 123 in the 45th over. Wickets shared for Kenilworth, Muhammad Faheem with a superb 3 for 17 from ten very tidy overs, Connor Shingler with 3 for 21 from five overs, Steve Rhodes with 1 for 14 from six overs, Sunny Ahmed 1 for 22 from six overs, Ilyas with 1 for 25 from ten overs and 1 for 8 for Muhammed Naeem from five overs. Homer top scoring for Kings Heath with 30.

Kenilworth openers, skipper Pete Magafas and Connor Shingler looked to make a positive start for their side, the pair were up against Hasan and Gaffa, Magafas hit four fours in 17, when he caught off the bowling of Hasan, Kenilworth 31 for 1 in the 5th over, Sunny Ahmed joined Shingler, but was also caught of Hasan for no score, Kenilworth 35 for 2 in the 8th over. The wicket of Ahmed bought Dave Edmunds to the crease to partner Shingler. Edmunds and Shingler began to build a partnership together, quickly getting the score moving, going on to post a fifty run partnership together in only ten overs, the pair bought up the hundred in the 18th over, with the score on 104, Edmunds was lbw to Farook for 25, putting on 69 with Shingler for the third wicket in 13 overs. Muhammad Fahim was next man in, as Shingler was unmoved and closing in on a half century. No further alarms for Kenilworth, as the visitors got to their target in the 23rd over, Shingler finishing on an unbeaten 53, his innings containing 8 x 4. Fahim ended 13 not out on 13, Kenilworth finishing on 125 for 3, Kenilworth the winners by seven wickets. Hasan taking 2 for 31 for King’s Heath, Kenilworth making it two wins in a row and their fourth of the season.
