2nd. XI v. Solihull Municipal

The 2nd. XI travelled to Solihull Municipal on Saturday 13th. July for their Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 8 win/lose fixture and were skittled out for 95 as the hosts eased to a 7 wicket win with many overs to spare, in a day to forget for the side.

Municipal won the toss and asked Kenilworth to bat first. Openers Mark Stranks and skipper Dan Horner were the men the visitors had at the crease first, but lost the inform Stranks early, bowled by Mahmood for 3, Kenilworth 6 for 1. Darius Potten-Ravenshad joined Horner, the pair began to rebuild their sides innings, taking the score to 40 when Ravenshad was caught off the bowling of Goodyer for 12, Kenilworth 40 for 2. Nathan Chant now with Horner, again the pair looked to put on a decent partnership together, they had put on 31 when Chant was caught off the bowling of Stanley for 21, Kenilworth 71 for 3. Next man in Ben Maney didn’t stay long, also caught off the bowling of Stanley, out for 1, and Kenilworth struggling on 73 for 4. When next man in Charlie Stranks was run out for 2, Kenilworth were in big trouble on 75 for 5, then skipper Horner was caught off Goodyer for a solid 35, the visitors 77 for 6, this soon became 77 for 7, Sam Leach also caught off Goodyer, the same bowling and Fielding combination accounted for Will Thompson for 6, now 85 for 8. When Drew Vyas was bowled by Kervaski for 1, it was 85 for 9. Number ten Skinner had made 6 when he was last man out, caught off Kavaski, leaving Chris Beech not out 1, and Kenilworth all out for just 95 in 43 overs. Goodyer and Stanley taking three wickets each for Municipal.

After the tea interval, the home side looked to chase down the under par total Kenilworth posted, Openers Clements and Gorton made a solid start for their side both players eased into double figures against a accurate spin attack from Kenilworth, but neither player untroubled, as the pair added nearly fifty together when Kenilworth struck, Clements caught by Nathan Chant off the bowling of Sam Leach, for 20, his opening partner fell soon after, caught by Sam Leach off the bowling of Darius Potten-Ravenshad for a solid 30. Number three Muckler made 10, but he too was caught by Sam Leach, this time off the bowling of Chris Beech, but Municipal were nearly at their target, Singleton with 6 not out and Johnson with 10 not out saw their side home, finishing on 96 for 3, winning by 7 wickets in only 21.3 overs. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were, Chris Beech with 1 for 34 off ten tidy overs, Sam Leach with 26 from 4.3 overs and a wicket for Darius Potten-Ravenshad, 1 for 12 from three overs, as Kenilworth suffered a rare heavy defeat.

 

Kenilworth 95-10 (1 point) (44 overs) lose to Solihull Municipal 96-3 (20 points) (21.3 overs) by 7 wickets.
