Solid performance sees the 2nds. win

2nd. XI v. Oakfield & Rowlands

On 20th. July, the Club’s 2nd. XI hosted Rugby outfit Oakfield & Rowlands in their win/lose format Division 8 match in the Warwickshire County Cricket League at our Warwick Road Ground and achieved a 6 wicket win that sees them move into 4th. spot in the Division.

Home skipper Dan Horner won the toss and asked Oakfield to bat first, Randall and Hobbs opened up the innings for the visitors, together the pair made a strong start, punishing anything off line, Randall in particular was in aggressive mode, the added fifty stand in the first ten overs, but with the score on 74, Hobbs was bowled by the spin of Sam Leach, Hobbs out for 15. Armstrong was the next man in, but he didn’t last long, caught by Mark Stranks for 1, Oakfield now 89 for 2. Number four French was Randall’s next partner, the pair looked comfortable until Randall was bowled by the spin of Danny Boneham, Randall making a fine 82 for his side. The visitors well placed on 135 for 3.
Charlie Stranks replaced Leach, and immediately had French caught by Nathan Chant for 24, now 136 for 4, Cluly soon followed, lbw to Boneham for 2, Oakfield now starting to lose wickets, 140 for 5, soon became 142 for 6, Hilliard caught by Chant off Charlie Stranks for 11, Clarke was next man to fall, bowled by Boneham for 3, 145 for 7, as the visitors were losing wickets regularly. Sam Leach was back into the attack, and soon back in the wickets, having Addison caught by Boneham for 9, Oakfield 156 for 9 when Chris Beech ran out Shah for 4, Leach bowled number eleven Smith for 3, Oakfield were all out for 166 in 47 overs. For Kenilworth, Sam Leach taking 4 for 24 from 8.2 overs, Danny Boneham with 3 for 25 from nine overs and two wickets for Charlie Stranks, 2 for 30 from nine overs.

After the tea interval the Kenilworth Openers Dan Horner and Mark Stranks looked to make a strong start for their side, the pair putting on 44 for the first wicket when Mark Stranks was run out by Smith for 11, Horner was joined at the crease by David Barclay, both men looked assured, Barclay was in good touch, so too Horner, but when the home side had reached 58, skipper Horner was caught off the bowling of Hilliard for a solid 34. Next man in Nathan Chant had made 4 when he was also caught off the bowling of Hilliard, Kenilworth with a slight wobble on 62 for 3. Barclay was steadfast, and along with Danny Boneham, the pair were in determined mood, Boneham was starting to find the bowling to his liking, the pair were to go on and add a fifty run partnership together, Barclay and Boneham passed 25 each, with the target down to 30 needed, Boneham was caught off French for a decent 29, the pair adding 74 for the fourth wicket. Charlie Stranks, batting at five decided to get his side quickly to their target, he and Barclay ensured Kenilworth reached the required runs with no further loss of wicket, and in the 37th over, Stranks hit the winning run, Stranks ending 20 not out, Barclay also unbeaten, ending 42 not out, Kenilworth finished on 168 for 4, winning by six wickets and plenty of overs remaining. For Oakfield, Hilliard taking two wickets. Kenilworth back to winning ways, taking 20 points.
