Steve steers the side on the Rhodes to victory to upset the form book

1st. XI v. Moseley Ashfield

WIN

Kenilworth’s 1st XI who were only 4 points above the 2 relegation spots at the start of the day hosted table toppers Moseley Ashfield in their last win/lose format fixture of the season on Saturday 10th. August in the Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 1 but put in an eye catching performance to upset the form book as they recorded a 4 wicket victory in a match reduced to 38 overs a side.

The day started well as Kenilworth won the flip of the coin and asked Ashfield to bat first and whose top order struggled against the pace and accuracy of Steve Rhodes who snapped up a superb 4-36 from his 8 overs ripping through the Ashfield top order. Wickets continued to fall regularly as Sunny Ahmed took a fine 2-11 from his spell. It was only the Ashfield tail that wagged a little as number 8, Carey hit 25, number 9 Jefferies 32 and number 10, Law with 15 and who showed any resistance before the side were finally bowled out inside 32 overs for 104 as Connor Shingler claimed 2-36 and Mo. Fahim 2-13 mopped up the tail. There were a brace of catches in the outfield for Henry Curran and Fahim, one for Shingler and one for Horner behind the stumps that accounted for the other to be snaffled.

In reply, the day got a lot better despite the best efforts of Ashfield’s Jefferies who took 3-31 and Carey 2-24, as Kenilworth had Ahmed with 35 and an unbeaten 37 from Fahim to thank to see them to their 5th. win of the season and victory with 6 and bit overs to spare as they cantered to 106-6 to claim the win which now gives them a 24 point breathing space over those in the relegation places with 5 matches to go. Moseley Ashfield surrendered top spot in the Division and now find themselves in 3rd place in what will turn out to be a nervy ending to season at both ends of the table for both sides.

Moseley Ashfield 104-10 (31.5 overs) (2 points), Kenilworth 106-6 (31.2 overs) (20 points).
