Weoley Hill too strong for the 2’s

2nd  XI v. Weoley Hill

LOSE

The Seconds rounded off their 2019 season with defeat in the Warwickshire County Cricket League in their final Division 8 League match on Saturday 14th. September as they travelled to Weoley Hill.

Batting first, the side made steady progress with the top five all reaching double figures with Ben Maney top scoring with 26 , hitting 4 boundaries and Dave Gamble 20 (2 x 4). Maney had shared in a 38 run partnership with Will Machin who was run out for 14 with a direct hit as the pair tried to steal a quick single. Darius Potten-Ravenshad made 12 and fellow opener Dan Roden 13. The mid order did not add much and from 105-5 the side slumped to 111 all out losing their last 5 wickets for only 6 runs with the damage being caused by spinners Brown who took 4-24 and Cole with 3-10.

In reply, a strong Weoley Hill side strolled to an 8 wicket victory inside 27 overs as they chased down the target reaching 112-2 with ease as Appleby hit an unbeaten 63 and Crathawn 27 despite Gamble taking 1-25 from his spell and Dan Barrie 1-19 thanks to a fine catch in the deep by Tom Skinner from his first ball bowled.

A decent season for the side that introduced numerous younger players into senior cricket throughout the season.
