Sunday XI v. Marton
KCC 171-9 (40 overs) beat Marton 103-10 by 68 runs.
On a chilly and spectator-free afternoon (due to the Covid Regulations) the Sunday XI started their season at home, entertaining local side, Marton, in a 40 overs a side friendly as players dusted down the winter cobwebs and tried to keep warm.
Kenilworth batted first and posted a strong 171-9 with openers Dan Horner and Will Thompson sharing in a 96 run opening partnership before Horner retired on 50 whilst Thompson went on to make 45 before he fell. Matt Dadswell chipped in with 20 towards the end of their inning after Dave Edmunds had made 10. For Marton, Lawrence took 2-14, Alan 2-31 and Pram 2-35 whilst Singh and Hipkiss picked up a wicket each.
In reply, Marton could only make 103 before they were bowled out and their top scorers were Toby with 16, Deugun 16 and Ruban 15. The star Kenilworth bowler on show was Jonathan Mortlock who took an excellent 3-5 off 6 very frugal overs, whilst Shyaan Imam took 2-8 after Jono Sparks had earlier claimed 2-18 whilst youngster Andrew O’Reilly picked up a wicket as 2 run outs accounted for the other wickets to fall.
All in all, it was a good run out for both sides and a good game, despite the cold weather.
