All 3 League sides win

Winning Ways

 

All 3 Kenilworth sides were in League action on Saturday that saw a hat trick of wins for the Club with each side successfully chasing down the set targets.

 

1st XI

Kenilworth v. Standard

Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 – W/L – 50 overs a side

WIN

Standard 153-9 (3 points) (50 overs) lost to Kenilworth 155-6 (20 points) (45.2 overs) by 4 wickets.

 

The 1st. XI recorded their first League win of the season in a keenly fought encounter against Standard at the Club’s Warwick Road Ground as they reached 155-6 with 4 overs to spare to record a fine 4 wicket win.

Standard had posted 154-9 in their innings after recovering from 92-6 with Curtis making 21, Phillips 19 and Miller 18. Six Town bowlers took wickets with Stuart Cope the pick with 2-33. Steve Rhodes claimed  2-41, whilst there was a wicket each for Jack Howard, Joe Atkinson, Matt Casey and from skipper Connor Shingler whose fine and frugal 10 over spell was rewarded with 1-16. In reply, Kenilworth had a steady start with Tom Booker making 23 but was a 4th. wicket partnership of 55 between Shingler 22 and George Baines who went to make 38 that was crucial to edge the Town closer to victory which was reached as Adam Huxford 18 not out and 6 not from Henry Curran saw the side  record their first League win of the season and move off bottom place and out of the early relegation spots. Fox took 2-29, Patel 2-36. Kidd 1-24 and Phillips 1-31 for Standard.

 

 

2nd XI

Kenilworth v. Fillongley

Warwickshire Cricket League – Division 7 East – W/L – 50 overs a side

WIN

Fillongley 95-10 (0 points) (28.5 overs) lost to Kenilworth 97-2 (20 points) (19.4 overs) by 8 wickets.

 

A super bowling spell from Kenilworth’s Jono Sparks was the highlight of the day as he took 5-20 off 7 overs to rip through the Fillongley line up who were skittled out for 95 inside 29 overs. Dan Roden weighed in with 2-5, whilst there was a wicket apiece for Kapil Dubey, Dave Gamble and Darius Potten-Ravenshad. In reply, the Town easily reached the winning post and 97-2 in less than 20 overs as opener, Adie Sellar, hit the winning boundary and end unbeaten on 30. Sparks was 17 not out whilst Shyaan Imam and Dave Smithson had both earlier made 16, in a one-sided affair that saw the side move into 3rd. spot in the Division with their very comfortable win.

 

 

3rd. XI

Kenilworth v. Alvechurch & Hopwood

Cotswold Hills Cricket League – Division 6 – W/L – 40 overs a side

WIN

Alvechurch 181-7 (6 points) (40 overs) lost to Kenilworth 182-5 (20 points) (37 overs) by 5 wickets.

 

Alvechurch posted a challenging 181-7 off their 40 overs as More-King made a fine 87 but their next highest scorer was Morgan who made 16 as Kenilworth’s Ed Smith took 2-35,  colt Sam Davis on debut 2-51 with Will Machin, Matt Dadswell and Josh Charlwood a wicket each. In reply, a solid batting performance ensured Kenilworth reached the target and end the day on 182-5 with three overs to spare as Uma Umashanker made 31, Steve Kelley 36, Charlwood 22 and an unbeaten 26 from Keeran Umashanker, in a win that sees the side move into top spot in the Division.
