Thrilling match at Alvechurch

There were two Sunday sides out for the Club. Both were 40 overs a side friendlies and both sides managed wins.

 

Sunday XI v. Coftonians

40 overs friendly

WIN

Coftonians 107-10 (33.3 overs) lost to Kenilworth 111-3 (24.2 overs) by 7 wickets

 

A solid Kenilworth bowling line up bowled out visitors, Coftonians, for 107 inside 34 overs as Darius Potten-Ravenshad took 3-11 from 8 fine overs, youngster James Sparks 3-13 whilst spin twins Dan Barrie took 2-15 and Matt Casey 2-22 with keeper Adam Huxford taking 2 catches. Liaqat top scored with 25. In reply, Kenilworth eased to a comfortable 7 wicket win as Dan Horner and Huxford who made 22, shared in a 62 run 2nd. wicket partnership. Horner went onto to make 63 (8 x 4) to set up the win as the side reached 111 with 15 overs in hand.

 

 

Sunday 2nd. XI v. Alvechurch and Hopwood

40 overs friendly.

WIN

Alvechurch 191-7 (40 overs) lost to Kenilworth 192-3 (40 overs) by 7 wickets.

 

Kenilworth’s Josh Charlwood and young Tate scampered a remarkable bye on the last ball of the match to gain the single to win the match with the scores tied after needing 6 runs from the last over for victory.

Alvechurch had earlier posted 191-7 from their overs with opener Ball hitting 84 not out and Hamblin adding 20. Wily Geoff Edmunds, playing his first match of the season, took a very impressive 2-7 from his 8 overs, Matt Dadswell 2-29, whilst there was a wicket a piece for Charlwood, Joe Smyth and Sam Davies. In reply, Kenilworth started well with Peter Huxford hitting 25, then a 94 run 2nd. wicket partnership between Dhruv Vyas 66 (7 x 4, 1 x 6) and Charlwood took place until Vyas was out when he hit his stumps trying a sweep. It was then left to Charlwood to take command and he went on to make an unbeaten 65 (6 x 4, 1 x 6) with the side needing 12 from the last two overs to reach 192-3 in a very tense and exciting finish to the match as the bye was gained on the match’s last ball. A thrilling end to the day.
