A Brace of wins

BOTH SIDES START THEIR LEAGUE SEASONS WITH WINS

Both Kenilworth sides started their Warwickshire League seasons off with narrow wins in their double header against Barby in low scoring affairs.

1st XI

Kenilworth v. Barby

WCCL Division 1  – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose format

KENILWORTH WON BY 2 WICKETS

Barby 140-10 (45.5 overs) (3 points) lost to Kenilworth 141-8 (36.1 overs) (20 points) by 2 wickets. Scorecard

Kenilworth recovered from 64-5 and held firm to chase down Barby’s 140-10  in their opening League match of the 2022 season with two wickets to spare as the side reached 141-8 after Connor Shingler 18 and Stuart Cope 15 had put on 40 runs for the 4th. wicket and then Chris Prophet 28 and Matt Casey 14  crucially added 55 runs for the 6th. wicket together as the side edged to victory although the side’s task was made much easier by the wayward Barby bowlers who conceded 35 wides.

Batting first Barby‘s Tarrant hit 34 and Chandran 30 in their total but the side struggled against the accurate pace bowling from the Town’s star performer with the ball, Darius Potten-Ravenshad (DPR), who took a fine 4-19 from his 9.5 overs. Shingler also chipped in with 2-28 from his 10 overs whilst Casey, Steve Rhodes and Jack Howard each took a wicket a piece with the latter also running out Barby’s opener. Kenilworth were on song in the field as well which was highlighted with a brace of excellent catches from both Shingler and Cope that aided their cause.

Despite Franks taking 3-28 and Chandran 2-17 for Barby, they were unable to prevent the Kenilworth side from starting their season off in winning style.

1st XI vs Barby

2nd. XI

Kenilworth v. Barby

WCCL Division 7 East – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose format

KENILWORTH WON BY 18 RUNS.

Kenilworth 139-10 (48.3 overs) (20 points) beat Barby 121-10 (39 overs) (4 points) by 18 runs. Scorecard

Opener, Dan Horner was by far the mainstay of Kenilworth’s innings as the side posted 139 all out as he hit a superb 75 as all other batsmen were unable to reach double figures apart from youngster, Will Machin, who made 18 and 11 from Kevin Tobin as the others found it difficult to get any early season form with the bat. Thompson took 3-16, Blanks 2-22 and Uday 2-24 for the hosts.

Barby looked set for the win until off spinner Tobin was introduced into the Kenilworth attack and he proceeded to romp through their line up taking a match winning 6-25 from his 9 overs as Barby fell 18 runs short ending the day on 121 all out with still 11 overs of the match remaining.  Josh Charlwood chipped in with 2-20 from his 10 overs whilst Tom Skinner and Ben Clarke, a wicket each to give Kenilworth a narrow win.
