Platinum Jubilee weekend woe for the 3 League sides

All 3 sides suffer defeats in their League matches

 

Saturday 4th. June

 

All three Kenilworth sides suffered defeats in their League encounters – the closest match was the Thirds who lost with 2 balls and 1 wicket left as Warwick crept to victory.

 

1st XI

 

Kenilworth v. Hampton & Solihull

WCCL Division 1  – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

LOST BY 3 WICKETS 

Kenilworth 199-10 (40 overs)(6 points) lost to Hampton & Solihull 203-7 (37.5 overs) (20 points)

 

Despite Kenilworth’s Tom Booker hitting an impressive 74 in the side’s total of 199 all out and the efforts of the side’s bowling unit they were unable to prevent Hampton & Solihull from winning the match as they reached 203-7 with 2 overs to spare. Joe Atkinson posted 26 and Stuart Cope 25 for the Town whilst Lunn took 3-26, Hughes 2-29, Nissar 2-32 and Ahmed 1-4 for Hampton. Chasing down the target score, Mohammed made 61, Hughes 57 and Hamayoon 27 after Cope had taken 2-37 with the ball, Jack Howard 2-48 with a wicket each for Atkinson, Steve Rhodes and Connor Shingler but their afternoon’s efforts proved to be in vain.

 

 

2nd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Berkswell 3’s

WCCL Division 7 East – 45 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

LOST BY 43 RUNS

Berkswell 121-10 (38 overs) (24 points) beat Kenilworth 78-10 (38.1 overs) (4 points) by 43 runs.

 

After bowling Berkswell out for 121 in 38 overs, Kenilworth were unable to captailize on chasing down the low target as they themselves were bowled out 78 to slump to a 43 runs defeat, as Ollie Berry ripped through the Town mid order to collect 6-15 from his 10 overs.  Mohammed chipped in with 2-13 whilst Singh and Lee took the other two wickets to fall. Keeran Umashanker top scored with 19, Sam Davies made 18 and Mark Stranks 10 for the Town side but they were on the only batsmen to reach double figures. Earlier, Bhall hit 31 and Mohammed 18 in Berkswell’s score as Ben Clarke took 3-22, Josh Charlwood 3-35, Dave Gamble 2-18 and Tom Skinner 1-20.

 

 

3rd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Warwick

CHL Division 4 North – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose format

LOST BY 1 WICKET

Kenilworth 143-8 (40 overs) (6 points) lost to Warwick 144-9 (39.4 overs) (16 points) by 1 wicket.

 

The Thirds suffered the heartbreak of a one wicket defeat with only 2 balls of the match remaining as Warwick sneaked over the winning line in a very tight match. Dhruv Vyas hit 28, Tarun Ahuja 21, whilst old timer Ant Kerry and youngster Will Thompson both made 18 a piece in the Town’s total as Mishra took 3-18 for Warwick who kept up with the run rate in the chase. In a game of nip and tuck, wickets fell, runs were scored and the match went down to the last over with one wicket remaining, Webb made 39, Davies 31 and Hussain 16 as Warwick reached 144-9 despite Ed Smith taking 3-35, Sam Leach 3-48, Anay Joshi 2-14and Matt Dadswell 1-27 for Kenilworth with keeper Louis Smithson taking two catches.
