Cricket season gets underway!

On Saturday, Kenilworth hosted, touring side, Longridge CC in a pre-season friendly. Kenilworth won the toss and chose to field first, and Longridge to set a target of 164 for 7 in their 40 overs.

James Whitehead and Joshua Mullin opened the innings for Longridge and managed to bring up their 50 partnership in 69 balls. Mullin continued to perform well, scoring a half-century in 62 balls with six 4s and one 6 before retiring. Archie Smith contributed an unbeaten 26 runs to the total. For Kenilworth, Tom Skinner took 3 for 25, Matt Casey took 2 for 23, while Connor Shingler and Darius Potten-Ravenshad shared the other 2 wickets to fall.

In response, Kenilworth scored 160 runs, all out in 40 overs. The highest scorer for Kenilworth was Sonu Kumar, who scored 36, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. His opening Parter, Joe Atkinson, making 30 (2×4, 2×6), while Louis Smithson finished the innings with 21 runs including 2 fours. Matt Greenall took three wickets for Longridge, while Rob Hollinghurst took two.

It was a close finish, with Kenilworth being all out on the final ball of their innings, losing by just 4 runs.
