In the opening round of the WCL T20, Kenilworth CC won the toss and chose to bat first. The team got off to a strong start with an opening partnership of 56 runs between Sonu Kumar and Stu Cope. Although Cope was dismissed in the 8th over, another solid partnership of 60 runs off just 24 balls followed, led by Quinn Bungard’s contribution of 29 runs. As wickets fell more frequently towards the end, Kenilworth finished their innings with a respectable total of 161/7 from 20 overs. In response, Berkswell struggled against the early breakthroughs by Kenilworth’s Steve Rhodes, who restricted them to 27/2 after 6 overs. However, a 51-run partnership for the 3rd wicket put pressure back on Kenilworth. Darius Potten-Ravenshad broke the partnership with a smart stumping from Henry Curran, and he, along with Joe Atkinson, then took crucial wickets as Berkswell slumped to 80-5 after 15 overs. With a challenging target ahead, Berkswell fought back with late-order hitting from Adnaan Riaz, bringing them close to victory. In the final over, captain Atkinson’s brilliant bowling held his nerve, conceding only 4 runs and taking a wicket. This left Berkswell 12 runs short of the target. Rhodes, Atkinson, and Potten-Ravenshad finishing with two wickets each, Matt Casey the other wicket taker.
