LOSS: 07/05/2011 v Leamington
Leamington proved to be far too strong against a weakened Town’s Saturday 3rd XI as they posted 291-5 from their 45 overs to record 137 run win after McCarthy hit 120 and Kumar 88 not out. The wickets were shared by Roger Kelsey who claimed 3-51 and Indy Matharu 2-63. Colt Charlie Stranks took two good out field catches. Apart from Steve Kelley who hit a solid 71 and Tom Anscombe with 21 there were no other scores of note as the side could only muster 154-10 in reply as Kumar capped a good day for him, as he took 4-41 whilst Norman added 3-15. Bewick and Ryan were the other wicket takers. Leamington 25 points, Kenilworth 5 points.
WINNING DRAW: 14/05/2011 v Moseley IV
The Town 3’s were one wicket short of victory against the 2010 Division 1 champions, Moseley in a match that they were far the better side. They posted 164 with colt Jaesh Naik hitting a Senior best of 25, whilst evergreen Andy Dadswell made 44 and the fearless colt George Boylin unbeaten on 33 in the number 10 berth as he smashed the ball to all parts. In reply, the Town took command but Moseley clung on to end the day at 67-9 from their 45 overs as the bowlers returned impressive and frugal figures. Spinners, Graham Woodward took 5-11 off 11 overs and Naik 2-3 off his 9 overs whilst Boylin took 1-12 off 11 overs. There was even a wicket for occasional bowler Chris Wallsgrove at the death as the Town sought a win but Moseley’s last pair held their nerves.
LOSS: 21/05/2011 v Attock IV
In a one sided affair, Attock cruised to an easy 9 wicket win as the Town 3’s had little to offer with the bat and even less with the ball. The Town could only muster 121 all out as the only batsman to show any form and resistance was Chris Wallsgrove who hit 49 with seven boundaries and one 6. R. Khan took 3-10 whilst Nisur and Fayyaz snapped up a brace of wickets. In reply, Attock only needed 17 overs to reach 125-1 as N. Khan bludgeoned 54 and Anas 51 as all Town bowlers were put to the sword. The only highlight in a day to forget was Josh Meszar claiming a wicket with his first ball of 2011.
LOSS: 28/05/2011 v King’s Heath
Despite claiming a superb 7-58 Town’s spinner Roger Kelsey, still ended up on the losing side as King’s Heath posted 212-10 as Crocker made 79 and Masood 45. Fellow spinners colts Charlie Stranks snapped up 2-16 whilst Jaesh Naik took 1-35. The Town’s batsmen were unable to cope with Heath’s Altaf who took 5-30 and Burd 4-15 as the side were skittled out for 123 after Andy Dadswell had made 28 and colt Rob Gardner 19.
WIN: 04/06/2011 v Aston Manor IV
The Town 3’s enjoyed a good 6 wicket win at Aston Manor thanks to their crop of talented colts performing with the ball then the bat. Manor posted 158-10 after Choksi posted 43, Ashraf 25, Murray 24 and Singh 22. Town teenagers Jaesh Naik snapped up 5-66 and Charlie Stranks 2-9 whilst veteran Roger Kelsey weighed in with 3-25 as all the wickets fell to the spinners. Colt Sid Hegde got the Town off to a superb start hitting his maiden Senior half century as he made 65 from the opening birth that included 11 boundaries and a six. Rob Gardner then blasted a quickfire 27 but it was left to birthday boy, Chris Wallsgrove 17 not out to see the side home with 13 overs to spare as they reached 160-4.
WIN: 11/06/2011 v Moseley Ashfield
The Town 3’s successfully chased down Moseley Ashfield’s total of 217-8 to win the match by 7 wickets. Nigel Thompson hit 88 for the Town smashing 15 boundaries as he and Steve Kelley 46 (6 x 4 and 1 x 6) shared in a match winning second wicket partnership of 120. Yet it was left to colt Rob Gardner to smash the winning runs in his hard hitting and quickfire unbeaten 52 that saw him despatch the ball to the ropes 8 times and once over it for a huge 6 as he ensured the side reach 221-3 in the penultimate over of the match. Earlier, Acaster had made 52, Knight 47 and Amin 23 for Ashfield as Josh Meszar claimed 4-55 with the ball, Indy Matharu 2-45 and veteran Roger Kelsey 2-51 for the Town.
WINNING DRAW: 25/06/2011 v Redditch
Confusion has arisen over the result of the 3’s League match at Redditch after they had been bowled out for 137. Redditch then believed they had chased down the total for the loss of 9 wickets with 28 overs of the match remaining to win the match. Handshakes all round and some time afterwards the Redditch Captain realised that there has been an error in their scorebook and in fact they had only achieved 129-9 when the match was ended. It was too late for the match to recommence. So, it is not known whether the League will award a winning draw to the Town 3’s or not. Anyway, in the Town innings Jaesh Naik top scored with 22 , skipper Andy Dadswell made 19, Rob Gardner 18 and Tom Anscombe 17. Aris took 4-37, Choudry 2-27 and Anasir 2-11 for the hosts. Redditch’s top scorers were Wafa with 34, Choudry 24 and Yaqoob 17 as Town’s colt George Boylin snapped up 3-37 with the ball whilst Naik took 3-17, Josh Meszar 2-47 and Theo McBrien 1-21.
LOSS: 02/07/2011 v Weoley Hill
The Town 3’s crashed to a 166 run defeat as their batsmen had no answer to Weoley Hill’s wily veteran and slow bowler Phil Cole who took an amazing 8-17 off his 11 overs. The side crashed to 61 all out with only Jaesh Naik posting 26 – his highest Senior score and Chris Wallsgrove 11 as they were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Earlier, Weoley Hill had posted 227-9 with Paul Williams bludgeoning a fine 75 and who was to later round off his fine day by snapping up 4 outfield catches off Cole’s bowling who also made 28 with the bat. Yeats added 27 and Walker 22 as Josh Meszar took 4-27, Roger Kelsey 2-33, Naik 2-63 and Andy Smith 1-39 for the Town. However, it was a day to forget for the Town 3’s with a very poor batting performance.
LOSS: 09/07/2011 v Leamington
The Town 3’s crashed to their second consecutive heavy defeat, as batsmen failed, this time at the hands of Leamington who cruised to a 82 run win. Leamington had been restricted to 178 thanks to a good Town bowling and fielding display as Jaesh Naik starred with the ball as his slow off breaks were rewarded with 4-43 whilst fellow slowy, Roger Kelsey claimed 3-31 and paceman Ed Smith 3-40. McCarthy made 64 and Barman 65 for the Spa. Replying, the Town were unable to cling on to save the match as batsmen threw their wickets away and with 2 overs remaining were bowled out for a paltry 96. Colt Charlie Stranks and skipper Andy Dadswell top scored with 17 each, whilst all rounder Naik chipped in with 15 in another day to forget as 5 Spa bowlers took the wickets.
LOSS: 23/07/2011 v Attock IV
Attock proved far too strong for the Town 3’s and easily chased down the side’s 114-9 after Jaesh Naik had scored 21 and Nigel Thompson 16. In reply, Attock raced to the winning post as they reached 115-3 with some 20 overs to spare as Asar led the way with an unbeaten 54. Ed Smith with 2-27 and Roger Kelsey 1-13 were the Town wicket takers.
WINNING DRAW: 30/07/2011 v King’s Heath
Chris Prophet starred for the Town 3’s in their wining draw against King’s Heath. He made his maiden century for the Club as he made 114 hitting 14 boundaries, a 5 and 3 sixes as he shared in a 105 run 2nd wicket partnership with Andy Dadswell who made a fine 68 with 11 boundaries and a six. Tom East added runs towards the end of the innings as he made an unbeaten 33 with six boundaries in the Town total of 251-3. In reply, King’s Heath ended the day on 216-5 after Adil had scored 60, Stunell 41, Massod 27, Rattley 26 and Nabeel 25. Roger Kelsey took 2-37 whilst there was a wicket each fo Charlie Stranks and occasional bowler, Chris Wallsgrove.
LOSING DRAW: 06/08/2011 v Aston Manor IV
Aston Manor proved too strong for the Town 3’s as they posted 296-5 off their 45 overs as Wood made 128 and Henry 68 despite Ed Smith taking 2-62 with a wicket a piece a piece from Lewis Barge, Indy Matharu and Roger Kelsey. Replying, the Town settled on 132-8 to draw the game with skipper Andy Dadswell top scoring with an unbeaten 50 batting at number 7 after Lane had made 19, Tom Anscombe and Kelsey 10 each after Knowles had claimed 3-14 and Sandhu 3-21.
LOSS: 13/08/2011 v Moseley Ashfield
Moseley Ashfield proved too strong for the Town 3’s as they eased to a 6 wicket win with 7 overs to spare after the Town outfit had posted 189. Ed Smith top scored with 34 as he hit 4 boundaries and a six, skipper Andy Dadswell 25 and Adam Davoile 16. The tail wagged as Roger Kelsey hit 5 boundaries in his 23, as bowler of the day Michelle Cole snapped up 4-54 for Ashfield whilst Ragpor took 3-56 and Hughes 2-34. Ashfield then successfully chased down the target to reach 191-4 as Ragpor went onto make 46 not out, Lane 43 and Sladen 25. There was a wicket each for Town’s Smith, Kelsey, Davoile and George Boylin but their efforts were in vain.
WINNING DRAW: 03/09/2011 v Weoley Hill
Town’s Indy Matharu was steadfast as the Town 3’s clung on for a draw against Weoley Hill to end the day on 113-9 as he faced 42 balls for his unbeaten 2 not out after opener Danny Lane made his maiden half century for the Club as he posted 53 with 8 boundaries. However, all other batsmen failed to reach double figures as wickets fell at regular intervals as Phil Cole took 3-35, McConver Snr. 2-21, Tout 2-30 and occasional bowler Calvin Williams 1-0. Earlier, Weoley Hill racked up 231-6 thanks to Cole who made 90, Williams 80 and Walker 31 as spinners Roger Kelsey took 3-52 and Andy Smith 2-40. Matharu took the other wicket to fall whilst 14 year old Jarrod Lane had a good day behind the stumps saving numerous boundaries off some wayward bowling as well taking a good catch and a sharp stumping. Yet, it was left to Matharu and Smith to save the day for the Town with the bat.
