1st. XI v. Nuneaton
LOSE
On Saturday 17th. August, the 1’s travelled to the north of the County for their Division 1 fixture in the Warwickshire County Cricket League at Nuneaton in their 50 overs a side match that saw the return of win/lose/draw cricket for the remaining 5 matches of this season’s League programme and wished they hadn’t, as they suffered a heavy 9 wicket defeat in no time at all. The match was all over in 40.5 overs.
The day started disastrously for the side, with the top 3 all out for a duck. Being 0-2 after two overs and then 4-4 after four overs, there was no way back for them as Benn and Ison, opening the Nuneaton attack caused mayhem and carnage. Wickets continued to fall all too regularly with only Sunny Ahmed showing any kind of resistance as he made 16 – the only batsman to reach double figures. Benn produced fine figures of 3-19 off 12 overs and Ison 4-16 from his 7 overs burst. The side stuttered and limped to a paltry 46 before they were finally bowled out inside 27 overs, 11 runs of which were gifted as extras.
In reply, Nuneaton cantered to an easy win reaching 48-1 inside 15 overs as Stedhill made 12 not out and Ison 8 with the only wicket to fall taken by Steve Rhodes who took 1-12 from his 4 overs in a day for the 1’s to quickly forget about and bounce back from.
