Seconds come first thanks to Stranks and the spinning trio!

2nd. XI v. Water Orton

WIN

The Seconds hosted Water Orton at our Warwick Road Ground on Saturday 7th. September in their penultimate Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 8 match of the season and ended up 49 run winners as Mark Stranks hit a half century before the spinners ripped through the visitors line up with all wickets falling to them.

They batted first with the reliable Stranks opening and remaining there for 37 overs as he cautiously held firm to make 54 hitting 4 boundaries and shared in a 4th wicket 60 run partnership with youngster Will Machin who made a solid 26 also hitting 4 boundaries. Danny Boneham made 11 but the trio were the only batsmen to reach double figures as the middle order struggled. However, the side managed to post 161-9 as Dabbs took 3-30, Moynihan 3-37 and Ibrahim 2-25 for the visitors.

Water Orton started carefully and solidly in reply not losing their first two wickets until the 16th over with the score on 38 when the wily and ever reliable Geoff Edmunds made the breakthrough. Opener Harding made 39 until he fell to Edmunds who went on to take a superb 4-10 from 12 frugal overs. Sam Leach then span his way to 4-36 to remove the mid order. The Water Orton tail wagged as Moynihan in the number 9 berth made 27 before he fell to the third spinner Tom Skinner who also took the final wicket and claim 2-19 to give the 2nds a 49 run win, as the visitors were bowled out for 112. Dan Roden and Danny Boneham took a catch whilst Joshi a stumping in the side’s win that sees them move into 7th. spot with a game left.
