Standard’s last pair hold firm

2nd. XI v. Standard

WCCL South East Group C

LOSE

Kenilworth 142-9 (45 overs) 6 points lost to Standard 143-9 (42.5 overs) 20 points by 1 wicket.

Standard’s last pair held firm to scrape over the winning line after Kenilworth had earlier posted 142-9 from their 45 overs faced to edge a one wicket win in a tense and nervy game.

Dave Edmunds top scored for Kenilworth making 35 (3 x 4, 1 x 6), youngster Will Machin 26 and Adam Huxford 23 as Chaudhry and Javed had both taken 2-17, Leybourne 2-29 and Sam 1-35 for the hosts.

In reply, Leybourne hit 47, Earl 30, Proctor 27 and Seddan 21 for Standard to put them easy favourites but then a loss of 4 wickets for 5 runs changed the game and it was left to the last pair to cling on and narrowly see the side home as they reached 143-9 in the 43rd over, despite Edmunds taking 4-20, Dan Roden 3-26 and Sam Leach 2-22 (and 2 outfield catches).
