Double delight on Saturday for the 1st. XI and 2nd. XI sides

Saturday’s League Match Reports – 26th. June

 

The 1st. XI and 2nd. XI both enjoyed victories in their respective League matches on Saturday in the Warwickshire County Cricket League whilst the 3rd. XI’s Cotswold Hills League match against Warwick had to be cancelled.

 

1st XI

Kenilworth v. Leamington 2nd. XI

WCCL Division 1 – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose Format

WIN

Kenilworth 267-5 (20 points) (50 overs) beat Leamington  173-7 (4 points) (43 overs) by 53 runs. (Revised DLS target 227)

 

A solid batting display saw Kenilworth 53 runs victors over neighbours Leamington in a match that ended early as they posted  267-5 from their 50 overs with George Baines the batsman on show hitting a fine 87 (8 x 4, 1 x 6) as he shared in a 2nd. wicket partnership of 85 with opener Joe Atkinson who made 63 (8 x 4). Baines and skipper Connor Shingler 37 (3 x 4, 1 x 6) then added a further 83 runs for the third wicket before Stuart Cope blasted a quickfire 38 (5 x 4, 2 x 6) from his 12 balls faced. 5 Leamington bowlers picked up a wicket a piece. In reply, the hosts soon found themselves on 17-3 then on 63-5 after Nick Couzens had added 32. Daniel Williams went onto make 67 not out (5 x 4) and Lee Credgington an unbeaten 28 as they pair added 68 together when the game was brought to a close with Leamington having to settle on 173-7 and some way off their revised target. Matt Casey took 2-21 and Cope 2-28 for Kenilworth, whilst Atkinson, Kapil Dubey and Jack Howard picked up a wicket each.

 

 

2nd. XI

Kenilworth v. Stockton Stars

WCCL Division 7 East – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose Format

WIN

Stockton Stars 183-9 (5 points) (50 overs) lost to Kenilworth 184-7 (20 points) (49.2 overs) by 3 wickets.

 

Kenilworth won their match in the last over of the game chasing down Stockton Stars’ score of 183-9 by 3 wickets as Shyaan Imam made 42 (7 x 4), Josh Charlwood 30, Dan Horner 29 and Dave Smithson 20 to reach 184-7 with 4 balls remaining.

Stockton had set the target score having slumped to 32-5 after 13 overs thanks to a 7th. wicket 98 run partnership between Shubh 60 and Ubhey 33, whilst Braj chipped in with an unbeaten 31 at the end of their innings. Dave Gamble took a fine and frugal 4-16 from his 10 overs for the Kenilworth side and Jono Sparks 2-39 from his spell whilst Pat Howard, Charlie Stranks and Sam Leach each claimed a wicket. Despite the efforts of Stockton’s Vibhu with 3-45 and Narvarkar 2-29, Kenilworth managed to scrape past the winning post and record their 5th. victory of the season that sees them consolidate 4th. spot in the Division and only 12 points behind the leaders.

 

3rd. XI

Kenilworth v. Warwick

CHL Division 6 – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose format

The match was cancelled.
