Thirds record first League win as the 1’s and 2’s fall short

Stranks sparkles with a century in the 3’s win

All three Kenilworth sides were in League action on Saturday with only the Thirds chalking up their first League win of the season as the other two sides were comfortably beaten.

 

1st XI

 

Kenilworth v. Streetly

WCCL Division 1  – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

LOST BY 142 RUNS 

Streetly 260-8 (50 overs) (24 points) beat Kenilworth 118-9 (A.O.) (36.4 overs) (3 points) by 142 runs

 

Streetly proved far too strong for the Kenilworth side, as they piled up 260-8 in their 50 overs with Sanku hitting 96 (15 x 4, 1 x 6), Junaid 54, Moose 36, Steve Hinton 28 not out and 23 from Mark Hinton as they found runs easy to come by despite the best efforts of Town’s Stuart Cope who took 2-21 from his 10 overs and Steve Rhodes who claimed 2-28. The other wickets to fall were shared between Joe Atkinson, Connor Shingler, Jack Howard and Darius Potten-Ravenshad with one a piece. In reply, Atkinson made 33 for the Town side and Henry Curran an unbeaten 27 in the tail after Zohaib Zahid hit 19 and Shingler 18 but they were only batsmen to reach double figures as the mid order collapsed losing 4 wickets for 13 runs. Kenilworth were bowled out for 118 in the 37th. over with Hinton, J. Khan, B. Khan and Hussana each taking a brace of wickets with Y. Khan the other to fall. The win sees Streetly move to the top of the Division.

 

 

2nd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Leamington Khalsa

WCCL Division 7 East – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

LOST BY 3 WICKETS

Kenilworth 202-4 (50 overs) (7 points) lost to Leamington Khalsa 203-7 (38.1 overs) (20 points) by 3 wickets.

 

Despite Dan Horner hitting a splendid 91 (11 x 4, 1 x 6) and Dave Edmunds 48 (6 x 4, 1×6) in Kenilworth’s total of 202-4 their efforts not enough as Khalsa chased down the target score and reached 203-7 with relative ease in the 43rd. over. Arora made an unbeaten 52 as he guided Khalsa to victory after Busireddy had made 36, Rathod 32 and Sharma 30. Dave Gamble picked up 3-43 and Shyaan Imam 2-39 for the Town side with Tom Skinner and Tom Best a wicket each but their efforts were in vain.

 

 

3rd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Leek Wootton

CHL Division 4 North – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose format

WON BY 5 WICKETS

Leek Wootton 214-8 (40 overs) (7 points) lost to Kenilworth 217-5 (37.4 overs) (21 points) by 5 wickets.

 

The Thirds recorded their first League win of the season as they chased down Leek Wootton’s 214-8 with two overs to spare as Town’s Mark Stranks hit a sparkling century. He was the mainstay of the Kenilworth innings and made a fine 103 (12 x 4, 1 x 6) with Yash Joshi and Steve Kelley both chipping in with 27 each as they partnered Stranks who departed with the score on 195-5. It was left to Will Thompson 14 not out to hit the match winning boundary as they reached 217-5 in the 38th. over. Earlier, Master made 59 and Holt hit 57 in Leek Wootton’s innings with Kenilworth’s Joe Tate taking 3-23, Sam Leach 2-47, with a wicket each for Thompson and Tarun Ajuha.
